Will Trump ever leave the White House?

Clarification: “Play begging”

Acting.

…and before that, the United States bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade with Clinton.

Well to be fair Trump has mentioned it, repeatedly. And with direct calls/threats of violence. And G Dubs and Obama didn’t have likely criminal charges waiting for them once they leave office.

I’ll take that bet.

They have been trolling him since he took office.

He is screwing up defense agreements with our allies, has no regard for national security, doesn’t take climate change seriously (they do), and he constantly tries to use them for political chest thumping useless garbage. Throughout the administration they have been finding new and creative ways to tell him, “we aren’t doing that”. Including the head of the Coast Guard flat out telling Trump to go fuck himself

That will be the point at which I will be out in the street throwing bricks and working to overthrow the state.

He was 47 when he took office, and he’s now 58. People go grey.

The root of the problem is that he won’t beg for forgivneness. He’ll insist he was wronged, and the knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers will believe it.

Regardless, Obama’s gray was evident before his first term was even up.

Going grey in your late forties / early fifties is hardly exceptional (he says, trying to convince himself that silver is distinguished).

The electoral college follows voting only by unwritten convention in most states. The fear I find more possible than an armed insurrection is a situation where a gerrymandered republican state legislature goes against the state’s voters and gives Trump the electoral votes regardless of the election results.

Nothing like this has happened in the U.S. since Rutherford Hayes following the civil war, but these are unprecedented times.

In three years time, though?

That pic was taken at his 2011 State of the Union address.

This was during his 2008 campaign;

Long story short; yes, we all eventually get old, go gray, and DIE. That’s a fact.

But constant unrelenting stress sure as hell seems to speed up that middle bit.

It’s funny: been a black/brunette my whole life. Have a chin beard. The edges are going grey and the middle is going red for some reason.

I’m married to a redhead so I blame it on her. Then (being a redhead) she usually throws something at me

I…think you are miss-attributing agency.
If he were to attempt acting at this point he would likely do it
with both a physical and verbal wink and nod.

Where is @smulder to inform us all that it is not even a question, he stops being president on that magic day in Jan 2021 if he loses? No muss, no fuss.

Eventually?

I still don’t think impeachment will remove him. The election SHOULD. If he won’t leave after that, assuming he loses, I believe he will be escorted out. He simply doesn’t have enough of a crazed loyal fan base in power.

No. The account should be given to Greta Thunberg.

I’d be silly to make confident predictions, but this does seem very far-fetched, even now.

I could absolutely imagine a grotesquely partisan move like in 2000, where the GOP steals an election within the letter of the law, and that’s still bad. But to blatantly, unambiguously ignore the law would be a massively different prospect and I don’t think Republicans even remotely have the stomach or the means to do that.

Election officials aren’t going to conspire, county by county and at every level of the org chart, to falsify the result. If Turmp loses according to the rules, everyone will know it. So he says “I’m not going”. Maybe there’s even a standoff between different armed agencies in the Oval Office (wiping billions off the US economy in seconds). But, in the longer term, what’s he going to do? The chain of command is gone – every federal employee now answers to whoever they feel like, if anyone. Congress will immediately stop the paychecks of anyone loyal to Turmp (never mind whether the armed forces will ignore the rules; you can be sure the accountants are going to follow the letter of the law). By day 2 or 3, California’s transition to a sovereign state is a done deal, they’re in talks with the UN and setting up the payroll systems for all the army, air force and naval bases they just inherited (10% raises across the board).

The GOP doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to install a brand-new revolutionary government, let alone anything on the scale of the existing US government. Long before it gets to the armed insurrection stage, Mitch McConnell has gone from being a powerful, connected figure to just some unemployed old fart in an empty building with no power to run his heat lamp. There is nothing in this scenario for Republicans to want. It’d be like cracking a safe by dropping it in a vat of molten steel.
