I remembered thinking in the late 70s, whew boy howdy it sure would be super embarassing to be a Jehovah’s Witness about now.
And yet despite the obvious failure of prophecy and pathetic re-jiggering there are more now than in 1976.

Sasquai?
Gods, I hope it’s true that a significant number of Qanoners are waking up from this madness.
I bet their Disappointed List is making ours look pretty puny about now.
Considering ours hasn’t been updated in… ever?
You betcha!
Though plenty of peeps still try to make the cut anyway:
Those comics are just a hair away from being classified as Rule 34.
Also, how long does it take for the vomiting to stop after viewing them?
cf. also the Tea Party movement and Trumpism. There will always be a new and slightly more extreme iteration that will be happy to take the crazies off the hands of the previous one. “Don’t believe in Q anymore? No problem, yeah we all know he was a fraud! But that doesn’t mean you have to stop hating antifa! Have you heard of x?” All we can hope for is that x doesn’t turn out to be outright white supremacist terrorism.
Generally a day or two in my experience
I’m worried that each iteration is crazier and more dangerous than the one before…
Truth is, this is basically every religion. Nearly all of them are founded on some prophecy happening Real Soon Now because that gets people to join. It’s easy to make fun of the recent ones like LDS and JW because we have modern records of their failures, but core Christianity was the same way. Jesus’ return has been quietly retconned a zillion times. Modern evangelical spinoffs constantly tout this lifetime as being The One when the big thing will happen, be it a rapture or a resurrection or an enlightenment or whatever.
However, imagining embarrassment in believers about such failures presumes that the belief is based on evidence. Evidence is never a factor in such things, so “being proven wrong” isn’t even a useful construct around which to view the groups. The founding premise of nearly every religion is silly fairy tale stuff, so if people believe enough to join in the first place, nothing said after that evidence-wise matters. For the most part, people make decisions emotionally and then justify it to ourselves to where we think it is rational after the fact. And holy cow are we good at that.
I’ve been restraining from suggesting this image (I’m sorry, I really am) but ever since the my pillow guy started dry humping Trump I’ve wonder but been afraid to look if there is a trump themed body pillow so Trumpist can lay with their favorite bro crush.
These comics finally pushed me over the line and I had to ask. Mostly rhetorically because I’m not cruel.
Welp. That’s going on the ‘Do Not Google’ List right next to Lemonparty.
I googled lemonparty because I don’t heed warnings very well. Wow. Learned something new. I’m uh… I got nothing. [Walks away dazed]
I still can’t believe they got away with this on 30 Rock.
[Buck Henry is playing Liz Lemon’s father, Dick]
Just so everyone knows, it’s at the top of the ‘Do Not Google’ list for a reason. I’ve managed to avoid it for the last 17-18 years. I have a vague understanding of what it is, but I haven’t seen it myself, mostly because every time I bring up the ‘Do Not Google’ list and use it as an example, someone googles it and then makes loud regret noises. You aren’t the first casualty, Garymon, my apologies.
None needed. I tend to run toward cliffs when told to be cautious.
I didn’t do an image search, just a regular search. So it was just a text description of the photo or
After I posted my response I actually felt guilty. It’s not my cup of tea but that’s no reason for me to make fun of it.
Oh definitely. For anyone reading this who’s into it, you do you. Lord knows I’ve got my own proclivities.
They’ve had the smaller model out for years. Chihuahuas love it. Does that count?
