Bating christian fundamentalists, Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah’s witness was an adolescence hobby for my best friend and I. We researched various religions and could quote scripture back at them to show their own hypocrisy. We never met anyone as far gone as this lady is, but if we did, provoking a heart attack would have been our goal. Good thing we lived in Canada, I imagine if we tried that in the US we would have got ourselves shot.
Ha! Even better.
C’mon, everyone knows that Jesus drove Hondas. John 12:49 “For I do not speak of my own Accord…”
I know, right?
Wow. @Falcor must have eaten a bad troll.
Is this the right plaice to express your offense? Many people flounder when describing the shapes of fish; @GilbertWham is hardly the sole example of this.

In the words of Matthew 4:19, Jesus said
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
although he was really only talking to the in-groupers.
I believe the same thing happens with Islam. Islam in Mali is different from Islam in Turkey, which is different from Islam in Somalia, which is different from Islam in Iran, which is different from Islam in Indonesia, etc. Then you get these interlopers who say “you’re doing it wrong.” Al-Shabab vis-a-vis Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a.
I figure Buddhism in Tibet is different from that in Japan, but I’ve not heard about any conflict between the two. Presumably Jews in North Africa had a different approach than those in Yemen, Ethiopia or Poland.
in Texas.[…] I had two professors in shitty community college who were all about right wing anti Zionist nwo conspiracy and hating the UN and all other religions as well… Who were also college professors (and one was a gym teacher). My sixth grade teacher did it too.
Can I hazard a guess that this was in Arlington?
Was there really much beaver consumption? I thought it was mostly exctinct in Europe.
But on another note, I will add that Queen Elizabeth ruled that fish should be eaten on other days of the week. This would mean saltwater fish, since fresh water fish in lakes and rivers typically belonged to the nobility that owned the land. Elizabeth’s idea was to encourage the fishing industry and thereby build up the number of skilled sailors which could be used in the Navy.
maybe nearly exctinct because of the consumption?

They just write themselves, don’t they?
But seriously, the ruling mentioned seems to have been a response to a question from the New World.
From Wikipedia:
“In the 17th century, based on a question raised by the Bishop of Quebec, the Roman Catholic Church ruled that the beaver was a fish for purposes of dietary law. Therefore, the general prohibition on the consumption of meat on Fridays did not apply to beaver meat. The legal basis for the decision probably rests with the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas, which bases animal classification as much on habit as anatomy. This is similar to the Church’s classification of other semi-aquatic rodents, such as the capybara and muskrat.”
Beaver
Beavers (genus Castor) are large, semiaquatic rodents of the Northern Hemisphere. There are two existing species: the North American beaver (Castor canadensis) and the Eurasian beaver (C. fiber). Beavers are the second-largest living rodents, after capybaras, weighing up to 50 kg (110 lb). They have stout bodies with large heads, long chisel-like incisors, brown or gray fur, hand-like front feet, webbed back feet, and tails that are flat and scaly. The two species differ in skull and tail s...

Yes, Wikipedia says “The Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) was nearly hunted to extinction in Europe…” and “The beaver became extinct in Great Britain in the sixteenth century:”
There are different forms of Buddhism, just as there are different forms of Christianity.
And yes, there are differences in beliefs/worship between Ashkenasim, Sephardim, Mizrahim, etc. Ethiopian Jews (prior to relocating to Israel) were pre-Talmudic, which was particularly fascinating.
