This is a very serious problem. For society, nothing much happened, just business as usual, but the boys were sons of diplomats, a caste from an unofficial caste system. If they had been young men from Rocinha, Jacaré or Rio das Pedras, it might not have had as much impact. What should really be discussed is not the conduct in this case, but the conduct in all similar cases and why things are that way.

Oh yeah, cops are a reflection of our societies, and unfortunately, our societies value rich white people (and mostly men) far more.

We live in an unoficcial caste system. Everyone must know their place in a hierarchical society. This creates distortions such as poorer people who accept abuse as part of life and worse, even ask for more abuse.
The Governor is very angry. He is skating on thin ice these days.
The governor stated that he will not “crucify” the police officers involved in the case, and that an investigation will reveal what happened (see details about the case below).
“I will demand a serious and impartial investigation. If it is found that they exaggerated, they will be punished within the scope of this type of error,” said the governor.
Castro stated that contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could have been directly, through a phone call.
“Everyone has my phone number. It happened and, before publishing the statement, call. That’s the attitude. After insulting the police, they sent a letter. They wasted time in sending a letter”, added the governor.
On Tuesday (9), the governor had already defended the PMs who approached diplomats’ boys in Ipanema.
The Government of Brazil is skating too. They have their traditional left/liberal base, and must please them, but It caused a lot of discomfort with foreign authorities…
