Hollywood and Beijing’s honeymoon has been over for a while and now they’re refusing to seek couple’s counselling

Sir Oliver actually has a nuanced take. His point is that the UK should work with others to convince the US to tone down the rhetoric.

Unfortunately that’s a nice sentiment but of course he has no influence whatsoever in the government that withdrew the whip from him. Instead, the UK is lapdogging its new carrier behind the US in the South China Sea, a sea it has even less business in than that country.

But Sir Oliver says the West often misunderstands China, whose primary aim is to restore what it regards as its rightful position as a world power following the “aberration” of the last 250 years, during which it has been largely subdued by the West.

“They expect to be treated with respect… and they don’t expect institutions to kowtow to the United States.”

The West should work to end “the maintenance of China’s periphery”, says Sir Oliver, in an effort to manage the “conflicting ambition” between China and US - that is, between gaining and retaining power.

Sir Oliver says the G20 - a forum representing 20 leading economies, including China - shows promise, but the US must make a “very, very big adjustment” to no longer being the world’s sole superpower

Strangely, whether they’re “ultra-nationalist” or super cosmopolitan, it’s only the ones who, like Prosvirnin, are anti-Putin who seem to have so much difficulty with windows.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

Watch the western powers fall all over themselves to condemn this when they’ve been pretty studiously ignoring the violence against Muslims in India for going on about a decade now…

The argument erupted during a debate on an amendment adding the female noun for a Jordanian citizen, to a chapter in the constitution guaranteeing equal rights of all citizens.
