Yahoo to change name to "Altaba"

So… Now they’re going to play second fiddle to Ask.com rather than Google?

  1. How the hell is that company worth 4.8 BILLION anything???

  2. 2000’s internet bubble called. It wants its stupid nonsense tech names back.

  3. Is fuckedcompany.com back up now? check nope. Just wondered. I thought I was having a drug flash back, even though I don’t do drugs…

Would it be considered compulsive mirroring if I found myself laughing along with those puppets, even for a moment?

Yahoo Japan is still going strong. Its auction site is pretty much the default here like ebay is in the states.

I guess Altavista was still not available.

Would you believe I still have Altavista in my Firefox bookmark bar? It’s in he #1 position. I keep it there for sentimental reasons.

Basically?

They invested a bunch into Alibaba, which is the world’s largest online retailer. Think of them like Amazon in their most well known site, except they do things like move $18 BILLION worth of merchandise on their biggest day. They also run the Chinese equivalent of EBay, and the equivalent of Paypal, and the equivalent of AWS, and they run the 2nd biggest IM service, and a film company, and…

To my understanding, it’s not entirely inaccurate to call the Chinese Internet “Weibo and stuff owned by Alibaba”

EDIT: Actually no, the previous quote isn’t entirely accurate either: Alibaba owns a 1/3rd stake of Weibo

I think “Tabula Rasa” might have been a better option…

Same as they did with AOL, make a fuck-ton of money off it (a la’ the original standard setter, AT&T) by selling all that data goodness to the NSA, (and anybody else).

Alt-Right-Aba.

Oh sorry, I misread. Apparently that 4.8 billion figure is for the Yahoo that people know, the stuff being sold off to Verizon. Who the hell valuates that part of the company so highly I have no clue.

Was ControlShiftB the second choice?

Wait a minute… It’s a company that refuses to die, despite making terrible decisions again and again and is bafflingly over-valued. And it’s now calling itself Altaba.

Break this down.

Alt + A B A

You know what this means?

They’ve only gone and posted their cheat code by mistake!

“Mastaba” sounded too much like a pyramid scheme.

They should have gone with Phillip Morris.

I like it, when I accidentally end up on Altaba it reminds me to press alt+tab and get away right in the name.
