If Kotto had captained the Enterprise-D, there would have been no Lt. Giardello running the squadroom in Homicide: Life On The Street. And considering the entirety of both shows, that would almost certainly have been a net loss.
I’ve watched the whole run of Homicide three times. TNG - rewatched only selected episodes from time to time.

Yeah I was looking forward to her in the role when I heard that she had been cast. Accounts are that she was a bit of a prima donna not really ready for the schedule needed to shoot a TV show. So they had to recast after production had already started.
“A Doll’s Eyes,” is hands down the saddest thing I have ever seen on television. I’ve been a fan of Gary Basaraba ever since.

Just, just fucking wow.
That is perhaps the single finest delivery of an actor’s lines in any movie I’ve ever seen. If acting skill were the size of his genitals, they would block out the sun compared to every other actor.
