NO-ONE could possibly be paid enough for that shit.

Iā€™m in Ga. It does have a QR code, but it prints out your entire ballot so you can verify. You then feed them into a machine which scans and records your vote. You can verify that the print out is correct before you record your vote.

It actually is a lot more like a scantron and is relatively easy to understand.

And honestly, Iā€™d be very happy with paper ballots.

Iā€™m English, we have enough of our own bollix to deal with, yet every time I visit this thread I get more scared that your Tangerine Terrorist will find a way back. Please reassure me itā€™s not possible. Iā€™m begging you.

I canā€™t. Sorry. I donā€™t exactly ā€œcontrolā€ the entire country hereā€¦

Well, thanks for trying.

I can do what I can, which is vote, advocate, volunteer, donate, etc. I canā€™t fix the country by myself, though. I canā€™t fix people who are hellbent on driving the country and the world into a ditch. I donā€™t know what you expect me to say here, other than that. :woman_shrugging:

Nah, not expecting you to rule the world (though Iā€™m sure itā€™d be a nicer place).

But speaking as a US native (I assume), do you think these shenanigans will allow him back in, or is he just puffing and blowing?

Not asking for a definitive answer, just an informed opinionā€¦

Itā€™s a possibility, yes, and that depends on how committed the GOP is to Trump and Trumpism. Thatā€™s unclear at this point. Some seem very committed, while others are more willing to move away from that. But as long as itā€™s a core part of the GOP base, it remains a possibility. We did not get quite the rebuke we wanted. I think if heā€™s put on trial and convicted, that might draw away more of the GOP from Trumpism, but then again, this is not an ideology built on facts and respect for democratic norms.

[ETA] That being said, state courts seem to be holding the line to some extent. And those testing the robustness of democratic norms keep backing away from that line:

Note also, that this is not an American phenomenon entirely. This shift to the right has more generally been prompted by the rise of neoliberal policies that are deeply unpopular. Itā€™s similar to what happened during the Great Depression, and how fascism was able to get a foothold.

Thanks Mindysan, this is the first time Iā€™ve followed an American election so closely. But it seemed to me that there is so much at stake for the rest of the world, I was compelled to watch, and elated when Biden won (no matter how ineffectual he may prove in the long run - I just think the world needs a rest from the twitter for a while).
We are seeing the right wing grow here also, which is frankly effin depressin.
Thanks for your take on this, hope you get the outcome you desire and deserve, stay safe.

Wow,
Just followed that link from your post.
I used to think the UK had the monopoly on 'orrible racist bastards.
How wrong can you beā€¦
I feel like the worst ingenue in the world.

Thatā€™s entirely true. It should not be, but it is. It would be nice if from Biden going forward, weā€™d act like a leader, not in the sense of undermining and dictating to the rest of the world, but by acting like our stated values have meaning and enacting them. We could do that by tackling the problems that we all face (on climate change and public health) on a global scale based on science and thinking about the future of humanity.

Amazing read, Gulliver, thank you.

What he wants right now is for Trump to stop blocking the transition. Sounding mellow on prosecution might get Trump to budge. (Except that itā€™s not really mellow: leaving it up to an independent Justice Department is exactly what should happen.)

ah, okay. i misread the article. and it sounds like they retain the paper ballot.

https://youtu.be/U3Vqs2CtQV8 and ( hereā€™s their official, yikes, recount video ) the recount uses printed text not the qr code. so actually, thatā€™s not terrible. ( still more complicated than it needs to be, but seems much better than pure electronic voting. )

thanks for the correction!

In, out, shake it all about.

Not that rescinding a vote is even a thing.

Did Lindsey Graham call them too?
