2020 Election Thread (Part 2)

And maybe revisit the apportionment law and add more house districts. This seems like it would favor people over land.

Now the hot takes will start that it wasnā€™t a landslide so you have to bow towards Trumpites.

No - if thereā€™s one thing we learned from the last election is that if you win - you get to govern.

There were several progressive candidates vying for the nomination. The voters picked Biden, not the DNC.

The DNC obviously preferred Biden, just as they prefer most Third Way candidates. While I agree that they donā€™t choose the candidate, the partyā€™s influence on the process isnā€™t close to zero. Assuming Biden wins, the next step is to get involved in reforming the party.

it was considerably less this year than it was in 2016. looking back at the elections iā€™ve voted and/or participated in i think the party influence was the least itā€™s been since 88 which was the election that in large part caused the creation of the dlc and greater party control. i know in 76 they were trying to protect against another mcgovern but after dukakis some very organized and pretty conservative types stepped up and took things firmly in hand.

edited for chronology

I think you mean 2016, and absolutely. 2016, with Wasserman-Schultz in charge, was a low point. I do think we have a way to go before we get to pre-DLC levels of influence, and honestly Iā€™m fine with the party having some influence as long as itā€™s at least in line with its counterparts in other OECD countries. Itā€™s bloody embarrassing that the Dems still canā€™t just come out and endorse single-payer universal health insurance, for example.

Itā€™s interesting in contrast, though, that itā€™s been mostly the moderate to outright conservative Dems who lost their House & Senate seats. They are trying to pin that on progressives and BLM, but that doesnā€™t make sense.

tl;dr McConnell will continue to fuck us over for at least 2 more years and Biden will get nothing done.

This is a really long but fascinating thread debunking the many conspiracy theories going around right now about the election. I even learned a few things by reading it:

Hereā€™s an unrolled version that some may find easier to read:

(Sorry if already known)

Decision Desk HQ called it for Biden. The first domino has fallen.
