I’m not Christian by any stretch, but whether I like it or not white British/European Christians are my people. And my god what a bunch of imperialist assholes we are.

Take heart that the reality-challenged segment of the population is very much the minority. Even among Republicans, half of that group are merely highly self-interested. That segment is willing to put up with a lot, but not to anything that threatens their own {wealth/ego/power}. As soon as they see a safe way to get off the tiger they have been riding, they will turn around and “find a conscience.”

There is a lot to digest in this article, but the key phrase is this:

"Speaking at Notre Dame in October, Barr offered his answer. He argued that the conflict of the 20th century pitted democracy against fascism and communism — a struggle democracy won, and handily. “But in the 21st century, we face an entirely different kind of challenge,” he warned. America was built atop the insight that “free government was only suitable and sustainable for a religious people.” But “over the past 50 years religion has been under increasing attack,” driven from the public square by “the growing ascendancy of secularism and the doctrine of moral relativism.”

(emphasis mine)

That is fucking terrifying.

except for the doctor part, those things you list represent part of the greatness of 'murica to the republicans.

and really, it wasn’t obama’s fault that so many doctors refused to accept so many of the obamacare plans, which no maybe he shouldn’t have promised it because he was promising the behavior of others.

being from texas, it looks a lot different here. still, i take your point.

I hear a mix of cheers and boos. Not sure which is louder to be perfectly honest.

God, he’s just so. fucking. dumb. He’s like a supermassive black hole of ignorance.

Yeah, but it’s the first lady. I think “loudly booed” is a fair comment if you can hear any booing over the cheering/applause at all.

Can I call Huey Newton instead and tell him to bring his guns? Whaddya mean it doesn’t work that way :interrobang:

Metrosexual, IIRC, is the word that replaced yuppie when yuppie went out of fashion. Basically a young, wealthy, upwardly mobile, urban, heterosexual man who cares about his own appearance and self image above all else. Does that sound like Mr. Rogers to you? Or does it sound like these people use words they think sound pejorative without having a clue as to what they actually mean? I haven’t heard the word metrosexual in at least a decade either, so maybe these people should get newer words to misuse.

I suspect he wanted to imply Mister Rogers was flamingly homosexual (which he was most definitely not) because apparently anyone nice, kind, and soft-spoken must be gay. “Metrosexual” sounds kinda like homosexual while also implying he’s a Big City Person and out of touch with Real Humans.

The Daily Wire couldn’t have nailed the generational divide any more precisely if they did it on purpose

John Wayne was popular with Boomer kids, mostly born before 1960, who saw him in theaters

Fred Rogers was popular with Generation X, mostly born after 1970, who saw him on television

Whoever that fossil is in the video, his whole thesis is everybody younger than him is doing it wrong

Fred Rogers was a straight white Christian male from a small town in rural Pennsylvania. But I suppose acting like a genuine human being and not like trash makes him the “other” for some reason

That’s fairly specific; data please. Otherwise, the late-boomers that I grew up with saw him as a fake-gun-blasting, hero-wanabe, oh-look-at-me-murder-Indians-while-on-horseback, conservative stooge.
