HOW ABOUT: the Daily Wire is so out of touch they’re invoking once-controversial cultural icons that have no meaning to anybody under 50
The R&W Laugh-In producers/writers were demonstrably anti-war, anti-establishment. I have to wonder if they shared a nod and a wink with each other when giving JW that line.
only because they feel that reflects on themselves. i’m pretty sure toxic men aren’t focused on raising a child so much as they creating a symbol of their own virility
( which i guess means they’ve just never met a bear )
I’m sure JW knew the kind of show it was, and also knew that him delivering that line would be devastatingly funny.
That may be so… but he was never mistaken for a whiz-kid.
And I am a very late boomer who grew up on Mr. Rogers and love him dearly still.
The ‘House of Hardened Feces’ is crumbling.
Is it?
Won’t Trump just appoint some new stooges?
The more things fall apart around him, the more it seems not only likely that he’ll stay in power, but also that he’ll win again in 2020.
R&M, not R&W…or were you saying something else that I don’t understand?
Quite possible… although I see the resignations of two administration officials (yet to be named) – working in the Executive Office of the POTUS – as ripe, potential witnesses who would offer even further corroboration of Ukraine shenanigans (and perhaps additional information re any other illegalities).
Sorry! Typing upside-down.
John Wayne was an old man by that time - he was big with their parents.
Edit:
He beat up those kids in his movies- hippies.
“ WAYNE: It’s like water against a cliff. Each wave deteriorates it a little more. I’m quite sure that’s the same thing that happens to human beings when they get hooked on drugs. What bothers me more is society’s attitude toward drugs. We allowed all the hippies to stay together in Haight-Ashbury and turn it into a dirty, filthy, unattractive place. We allow the glorifying of drugs in our business—like in Easy Rider, where the guy says. “Jesus, don’t you smoke pot?”—as if smoking pot is the same as chewing Bull Durham.”
“ Another thing Wayne hated was hippies, for ducking the Vietnam draft … even though he himself got out of going to World War II so he could make more cowboy movies (although the studio may have had more to do with that). If those draft-dodging hippies he disliked so much had film contracts, we’re sure Wayne would have understood.”
Also - he hated horses.
Yech. Thank Goddess it’s not!
Of course not - Bull Durham is more like gummies.
Also - they weren’t crazy bout Elvis - who was a generation younger than Wayne.
And Elvis was blonde in real life.
Marion Morrison was very careful of how he managed the John Wayne brand. He rarely did anything off-brand in his movies or in his public life.
It figures that they’d fall for a manufactured construct, “the John Wayne experience”, rather than a real person.
Who’s they in this proposed scenario?
The right wing types that back Daily Wire, the people that contribute to it, and the people who read it. They want to return America to the golden age Christian theocracy it once was. (The 18A0s, I think.)
From what I’ve read, they were a mix of left wing and right wing. I recall they had a bit of a crisis when they lost a head writer (or producer or other authority figure) who could make them all get along and work together.
