Bingo. And US manufacturing businesses, which have shifted over time from processed raw materials/commodities to products made from the ground up to only high-end products assembled from overseas components, is getting hit by tariffs in both directions. We pay a tariff on the incoming components, and (unless you are very lucky and have customers who can afford the price increase) have to cost-share the tariffs at the customer side. The US tariffs are getting redistributed to huge factory farms.

This will be where we find out how strong our democratic institutions actually are, and after 4 years of concerted effort to weaken them, I am not sure they will stand. Actually, it would be a fascinating experiment if it weren’t so abso-fucking-lutely terrifying. Stocking up on Tums!
