Well I am Gen X and a lot of us were ambivalent at best about children and having 1 or 2 kids when they did is what I see among my peers. So that is still a net zero or less for replacement.
ETA and my nephew who should be pushing 30 and niece in her late 20s as far as I know have had no interest in a long term relationship much less marriage/kids/etc.
Among my peers (late 30’s now), it seems to be all about cost. Raising kids is getting more and more expensive. So instead of having more kids, they are having fewer and spending more on them (private schooling, lots of sports programs, etc.).
Johnson backed Huawei despite multiple threats by Trump and his allies that the US would withdraw security cooperation with the UK if the deal went ahead. The US fears that Huawei’s technology could have backdoors for the Chinese government.
The US is:
Concerned about the security risks posed by the adoption of Huawei components
Angry that the backdoors we would certainly never build into our domestic 5G technology won’t be available to snoop on our allies’ communications.
The Washington Examiner frequently utilizes loaded wording in sensationalized headlines -Mediafactbiasfactcheck
As their readership is typically white, conservative, racist and homophobic the headline about Maxine is prob meant to raise the blood pressure and hate levels of their subscription holders.
It reminds me a bit of that picture of Pelosi pointing at Trump across a table, and how Republicans shared it to show Pelosi was an awful woman having a tantrum while non-Republicans shared it to show Pelosi was 100% appropriately putting Trump in their place.
If someone reads that headline and thinks “Maxine Waters has gone too far” then I’m 90% sure they are misogynist and 90% sure they racist.
A fair point! One thing that drives me nuts in discussions about racism and misogyny is that people always look for exceptional proof to justify extremely likely conclusions. Like some Republican member of congress says something racist and people are like, “Are we sure they’re racist?” and I’m like, “You know that ‘Republican member of congress’ gets us to like 80% before they say anything, right?”
There’s a turkey in DC that needs plucking, then broiling at 870C, then vigorous pulverizing until all that is left is a fine, grey ash and a bad smell.
