Low impact for most everybody here, except that it indicates this thing is still happening.

Will there be an actual guy whom his underlings have to address as ā€œSpace Commanderā€?

Please?

Thereā€™s a real growing undercurrent (and overcurrent, for that matter) of desperation on the part of the Democrats in the House when it comes to trying to manage this narrative theyā€™re pushing. They want to paint Trump as an out of control despot hell-bent on using the powers of his office to shield himself from liability while he wrecks the country and lines his greasy pockets with everything he can get his hands on (which isnā€™t even a stretch, because itā€™s true). But they also donā€™t want to actually make him angry by doing anything that might result in actual accountability, they just want to holler about how many busts of Abraham Lincoln heā€™s shit on. The administration flouts subpoenas loudly and in public, but the House wonā€™t take up contempt votes. The president questions Congressā€™s authority to check his power and reign in his corruption, and Nancy Pelosi glad-hands it with Bill Barr.

You canā€™t push the line that the president is a criminal, and then follow it up by saying ā€œbut we shouldnā€™t actually prosecute him for the crimes heā€™s committedā€. You canā€™t shout that this is a constitutional crisis and then poo-poo the only constitutionally-prescribed solution to the problem. Itā€™s two-faced and unseemly and ignorant and utterly transparent, and itā€™s reason enough to boot the whole lot of these idiots out of office for their cowardice. Just hand leadership over to the AOC/Tlaib/Ilham/Porter crew and get it the hell over with already. Theyā€™re not afraid to punch the bully in his big spray-tanned mouth.

Have you ever seen surveys on ā€œAre you in favor of banning dihydrogen monoxide?ā€ Truly, the ones quickest to give an opinion are those who have none.

tarrifs based on wages and workerā€™s rights would be a great thing in my opinion.

if weā€™d been doing that all along, foreign and domestic workers would be way better off i think. but I cant remember the last time i heard anybody even talk about it. itā€™s definitely not in corporate short term interests

This is so utterly infuriating. Thereā€™s so much fear about taking it on the chin, but you canā€™t have it both ways ā€“ if thereā€™s a huge Constutitonal crisis being brought about by an uncontrollable president that imagines himself as a despot, then fucking do something about it.

This ā€œwe canā€™t do anything because weā€™re being goaded into impeachmentā€ is so blatantly Trump taking a gamble that nobody will actually do anything ā€“ and worst of all, itā€™s working thus far. This whole okeydoke bullshit happening in Congress right now just has to stop. Call his bluff. Fucking do something. Start with impeaching Trump and Barr, and then work through the rest of the cabinet. Surely this all rises well above Clinton lying about getting a blowie in the Oval Office by now, right?

Now heā€™s crying to Jack on Twitter because people were making fun of him and thatā€™s what got popular.

Hereā€™s the thing. I doubt the average non-GOP-voter knows our number system is Arabic numerals either (though Iā€™d hazard a guess more know it than GOP-voters); to the extent that Americans should know that, itā€™s a failure of our gutted education system. The salient difference is that in the absence of that knowledge, non-GOP-voters were less likely to predicate their answer to the (very informal and nonrigorous) poll on the part of the world from which the name correctly implies the system originated. Simply put, more people who vote for a demonstrably xenophobic party substitute bigotry for acknowledging they donā€™t know something. Which, hey, water is wet, but the point remains.

Not all ignorance is bigotry, but all bigotry is ignorance, and often willful ignorance.

Depending on your viewpoint, itā€™s possibly worse. It was deliberately chosen to test prejudices.

They did also run:

His twitter feed is actually worth looking into. He has a lot more patience and willingness to discuss their results and methodology with complete idiots than I could muster.

He may feel the same way:

  • hah, who am I kidding, heā€™s loving it.

The Snopes article nicely summarises the whole thing for those who donā€™t want to wade through Twitter.

Banhammer Republic: Trump declares national emergency, starts ball rolling to boot Huawei out of ALL US networks

So my question on this is, is there supposed to be something unique about Huawei or do the same principles apply to any Chinese manufacturer of electronic equipment?

I donā€™t see how they donā€™t.

In which case, everyone is screwed because so far as I know all the manufacturers use chinese-made components to some degree.
