A Round Up of Resistance to Trump (Part 1)

Let the fiscal conservatives have their party. I disagree with the philosophy, but there is legitimacy there. But give the Nazis a separate party, and a hearty “fuck them.” And if they love Russia so much. Let’s expedite that. Meanwhile, the Dems need to either shift pretty far leftward or the balance of progressives will align under a new party. DSA, or even further left. If it’s a question of neoliberals or true socialists, I’ll go left rather than right.

The right is more likely to split- they’ll have mountains of acrimony blaming each other over who caused the loss.true believers angered at never Trumpers - and this who’ll want to say that they really where never Trumps and we’re doing what they could - quietly- behind the scene.

The Dems will stay together if they win big - the centrist will go along for the most part because that’s where the jobs and power will be. And thinking of how they can work with the never Trumpers to move things to the center. So the leftward flow needs to be strong enough to push them out of the way and to own the more important positions of power.

I would like to believe that. But I think that the centrists‘ greatest weakness is survivorship bias. They will think that, because they got through barely scraped through this, they were 100% right all the way. And will spurn progressives. :frowning:

It’s up to us to not let that fence sitting middle of the road bullshit slide; hold them accountable for being complicit in the fuckery via their passiveness.

I could see that temporarily, but unless unless our voting system changes (rank choice?) they will swirl around and recombine into 2 parties again. Maybe this will be different, but if the Nazis wind up not having a home, that would be ok.

I don’t doubt that they believe what they believe. But the only way to get through this crisis is through policies that are decidedly non centrist and non conservative. And some of those policies will persist afterwards.

Baio just doesn’t know when to STFU, does he?

Ah, yes, Happy Days, set at a time when the top tax bracket was, what, at least 50%? When college tuition was about the same cost as the books one had to buy?
Who would associate that golden era with anything akin to socialism…
I never really liked Chachi as a character, but Baio is making Chachi look like a genius in comparison.

Finally- the Senate Dems are going to deny the Committee a quorum to do business tomorrow.

Edit:

Play hardball with these assholes - even if you lose.

Maybe instead of boycotting they could form a human wall to prevent the chamber being entered. Link arms, hold banners, chain themselves to the doors. I dunno.

If they deny the quorum- the committee can’t move the nomination forward to a full vote.

Lindsey will likely do so anyway- it’ll get reviewed- they’ll have to have a full senate vote to move it out of committee- and if the Dems boycott that vote - will they have a quorum during election time?

They might be able to delay it till after Election Day?

Not sure I have this right - but they should fight with every legislative tool they have.

Edit:

Some Senate history on quorum busting. They can be arrested and dragged to the chamber.

Should be fun!

Armed insurrection? It’s the least they could do.
