You said you refused to see it because Solo is just a movie-length “gif meme” that you’d have to pay movie prices to see. And that Rogue One was just a “gif”. I’m honestly not sure what that’s supposed to mean, but my personal feeling is that they’re both well-crafted films that are lots of fun and well worth going to the theatre to see. But I guess animated gifs are the lingua franca of BB, so you do you.
I understand, I’m not trying to reinvent language. I don’t believe the last Star Wars is a movie, and I don’t think it is a film. I think it needs to have plot and characters and things like that to qualify. I don’t think mere length or budget is enough to qualify. To me it looked like a gif, a gif that lasted for two hours and then some. It was a dreadful experience.
There is a lot of rambling on here without seeing much of a coherent sentence.
This sort of sums up your stance though if I am not mistaken. As someone who has…ya know…actually watched the movie. It is not a gif. It is a movie. There is a plot. There is a story arc. There is character development. There is dialogue. It does fail the bechdel test, though…that sort of makes sense that it would. There are 3 female characters, one of which is a droid.
So I am with @nungesser that you do seem to be ripping not just Solo but the entire franchise because you only liked episodes 4 and 5 and are angry because people make gifs out of movies? Welcome to 2018. Good luck with yelling at everyone to get off your lawn.
cc @nungesser
I just disagree, I saw no plot, I saw no story arc, I saw no character development. I noticed there were words spoken but I wouldn’t call it dialogue. Just rambling to my ears. And I did see the movie, and again -I’m talking about The Last Jedi, not Solo.
So…let’s play an analogy game here. You don’t want to see Solo because you didn’t like Last Jedi. Solo is a Ron Howard/Kasden flick and Last Jedi was a Rian Johnson deal. Yes they are in the same universe…but this is like saying “I won’t ever eat ANY kind of cooked chicken, because I tried fried chicken once and didn’t like it”.
That makes zero sense.
They aren’t the same movies. Just the same universe. And again…calling a movie “its just a gif to me” doesn’t explain anything coherently.
I’ve watched many things from the Star Wars universe that I liked, I liked the Clone Wars tv show, I liked KOTOR, I like some of the comic books. I’m just giving up on the “movies”.
What I mean when I call the last jedi a gif is this: it’s subpar. Bad quality. Annoying.
This steak dinner is boring, I only want to eat the side dish.
If thats your thing, you do you. Don’t understand how anyone could, but no judgment here. One less person in line I have to worry about when the next film comes out. Although I will judge your use of quotes trying to slam the physical product of the film as not being a true movie. That is a jerk move.
I just have different standards of what I think of as a movie.
That’s totally fine. I thought Titanic was a dumb movie that annoyed me, and clearly a few billion people disagree with me. But I didn’t angrily announce that I’m giving up on all movies with boats or all James Cameron movies and expect people to sympathize. You might find that Solo is a completely, absolutely different kind of movie than Last Jedi, and really enjoy it. I really liked both for very different reasons.
You’re right. I might do that.
Now that’s a masterpiece of simultaneous overstatement and understatement.
A sequence of still frames combined to show movement and sound. That is a movie. Anything past that is a finer comb. Being a film snob is fine I guess. But not everything should be held to such a high standard if all it is going to do is lead you to shitting all over someone elses labor and love.
I’m sorry I have created all this antagonism. It was thoughtless of me. It wasn’t my intent to come off as angry or to be shitting all over the franchise. I guess I’m just disappointed with these movies and I started out a little strong. I do apologize.
Breaking news! Someone has contrary opinions!
You already invoked it’s evil name.
Apology accepted. For me, The Last Jedi was THE Star Wars sequel I had been waiting for since the end of Return of the Jedi in 83. It gave me a decent closure on one major part of the story and opened the door for more. So it’s hate has never been understood. Is it a perfect film? No, there are some pacing issues and some bits I would fix but I certainly walked out of TLJ feeling “the force” way more than I did with the prequels or even The Force Awakens.
The prequels were really quite bad, Force Awakens and Rogue One were much better. But TLJ made me really numb, I suppose the multiple endings as I read it just pushed me over the limit.
