The big problem with RWNJ “false flag” theories are they ascribe a level of evil competence and cleverness in manipulating public opinion to liberals/democrats that is completely at odds with reality.

If they were so clever, we would not have President Trump or a GOP dominated Congress to begin with.

“Experts” and commentators, doesn’t look like anyone with any more access then we have. So while this is a possibility (and a growing one if you ask me). Its been Repeatedly confirmed by authorities that these are real bombs and actually contain an explosive. And “experts” have been calling them fakes since it was one bomb and there was very little info available about the devices, while other “experts” have been arguing otherwise.

So until more info comes out that’s sort of where we’re at. Are they not exploding cause they’re not mean to or capable of it? Or are they not exploding cause they’re put togethet poorly? If they aren’t meant to explode why are they filled with actual gun powder?

Because it’s so easily available. It takes nothing more than a trip to Walmart to make your faux bomb look pretty realistic. Little effort, big payoff.

Plausible.

But you don’t need to use real explosives to make a plausible fake. But it makes it much more likely the package could be flagged by the explosive detectors used at mail sort facilities. Which means its much less likely your hoax makes it through far enough to cause much of a reaction. Obiously thats not how it worked out, but its also inconsistent with speculation that the pvc was used to avoid metal detectors or confuse xrays.

It also means a decent chance of accidental detonation. As stable as gun powder is, black power (the only specifically mentioned explosive so far) especially isn’t inert. There all sorts of ways it can go off unexpectedly. If the goal is to scare people without the possibility or consequences of actually harming them. Or risking harming them. Then that’s a really bad way to do it.

Just caught an update on the news. The NYPD is still calling them “potential improvised explosive devices”, but also still stressing these things are legitimately dangerous.

“Law enforcement sources” are saying at least some of devices contained shards of glass and shrapnel. Earlier reports, also unsourced, have claimed at least some devices were not wired to explode when opened. Which is very different than not wired to explode at all. And it doesn’t seem clear which was the intended meaning as I’ve seen that reported with and without the “when opened” proviso.

At this point I’d say say real bombs not meant to explode is more plausible than fake bombs woth real explosive. But who knows.

I suspect that whoever built these bombs was callous enough to not really care if people got hurt. “If they were, then they deserved it for being a government employee, or for working as that person’s secretary, or whatever” is probably how the bomb mailer thinks.

Another was sent to CNN addressed to Jake Tapper.

I feel like there is something in common with all of the folks on the list here. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

I’m sure we’re all shocked that this criminal mastermind was found and arrested so quickly.

Sadly, I expect that will be used by the usual suspects to defend the “False flag!” claims – of course he was found quickly, he’s in on the plot, or is a convenient patsy selected beforehand.

And a whole pile will buy it wholesale and promote it as gospel truth, right up there with Sandy Hook and 9/11 truthers. I weep for the sanity of our country.
