It came across my timeline via this guy, who Chris Hayes RT’d, but I’m not from NYC so I don’t know whether NY1 (whom this guy works for) is a credible news source.
IIRC the Bundy group is from the same or similar branch of Mormon or Christian separatist/apocalyptic cult movements.
Stochastic terrorism in action.
When you scream long enough and loudly enough about how the Democrats are traitors, how Soros is buying the election, how Clintons killed Vince Foster, and so on and on and on, sooner or later some fuckwit with their head full of right-wing paranoia and seething, confused hate goes and shoots people, or mails pipe bombs, or drives a car into a crowd.
And Trump and everyone else who have been egging these lunatic bastards up with their incessant fearmongering and finger-pointing, will wash their hands and claim they had nothing to do with it. Fucking fuckers.
I find the timing with the release of:
… to be very interesting.
I mean … it is not like that guy is at risk of losing a multi-hundred million dollar fortune.
Au contraire… I’d be plenty happy to show the two on my rear so the GOP and their pundit ilk can kiss 'em.
the important part here is that none of these packages were actually delivered
they will all intercepted - that’s not really being reported, only the hype
which is kind of impressive for the massively underfunded and often attacked by congess USPS, kudos to them
Guys, it’s a “moderate, soft form of swatting”. Calling the police on people openly walking around brandishing a gun is what she’s talking about. Um…
Captain Obvious moment; no one died or was injured.
I’m sure that the postal workers and office workers take exception to that thought.
That is my favourite part of the news.
Nobody died! What a refreshing fucking change.
(Probably /s, can’t tell today.)
Came across her SuperBeets ad she’s shilling for the other morning. I wouldn’t mind the charlatans so much these days if they weren’t so dangerous. Arguing with grieving fathers of school shooting victims, selling garbage supplements on TV. Anything for a buck, I guess.
Well, it beats actual murder, but attempted murder is not exactly nothing. Yes, kudos to the USPS for intercepting these attempted murder packages, they put their lives on the line for that. They should not have to. This is straight up terrorism. The success or failure of the effort does not change that.
All very true; but it’s the only silver lining there is in this fucked up dark cloud - no one died or was injured.
And I don’t know about anyone else, but the more people try to bully or intimidate me, that’s only the more steadfast and resistant I become.
I’m nobody’s ‘doormat’; they’re gonna have to knock me down repeatedly before they can “walk on me.”
I was more talking about the sort of connections where a certain militia leader is investigated for making inquiries about people willing to bomb a particular building in a particular city. And years later a guy who actually did bomb that building slept on his couch and aquired his escape vehicle from one of the guys that militia leader was known to have asked about who might want to bomb that particular building. And the bombing of that particular building closely followed the outline of the proposed bombing.
That sort of thing. I mean that’s badly glossing the actual details to provode a hypothetical but its the sort of thing you see all over OKC. I don’t have the details memorized, and looking them up is a rabbit hole.
Didn’t catch them. For the most part it was the Secret Service and other security/law enforcement agencies, or employees at the locations that check mail as it comes in as part of routine security for politicians.
At least some of the bombs seem to have been hand delivered. Most of them have been discovered exactly where they were meant to be. But before they detonated or made it close to anyone they targeted. The post office is out there stressing that particular bombs did not move through the mail as soon as they can confirm that they didn’t.
Also I’m not sure if reporting that some body has been dropping fucking bombs off for 3 days is “hype” if it doesn’t mostly focus on the fact that noones been blown up. Yet.
And multiple “poorly made” bombs in the wind, and a guy willing to make and send them wandering about isn’t nothing either.
Though radio is stressing that these bombs wouldn’t be particularly effective even if they did go off. Small apparently. And again poorly made.
state to state?
No papers?
Playing devils advocate a bit: why use mail bombs when those haven’t really worked since the unabomber was caught? Although before I go explore all the possible reasons, it’s probably just stupidity rather than malice. Kind of glad that if this is the work of a copycat at least they’re not copying McVeigh.
And yet.
They did. So its more like “What a relief these bombs were delivered so at least they weren’t delivered”. None have gone off so far, and it sounds unlikely that one will, at least as expected.
There have been a few mail bombers since the unabomber. Including several who’s bombs went off, or made it through to their target.
But even before the unabomber there were few that were as successful. Predominantly shit bombs that didn’t go off, or went off early, missing their targets. Or that weren’t powerful enough to do the job.
But of the bombs we have clear statements on. They’re saying they weren’t mailed. And at least a few have been cited as hand delivered.
Most of the bombs were discovered today, and the bulk of them seem to be around NY. But the overall spread and number is odd for all hand delivery by a single perp in that spread of time. Even allowing for some of them being discovered a day or so after delivery. Some of them have to have been sent some how. UPS, couriers. Or we’re talking about multiple people.
