Yeah yeah yeah. . . people on the right get called Nazis even when they may not be actual Nazis, just like Obama was called a Communist even though he’s yet another pro-business Democrat.
Whatever. This isn’t a new thing.
All I can say is that at least on paper Communism seems like a good deal. Marx basically came up with the idea of democracy applied to economics, even if the Soviets couldn’t live up to that ideal. You can’t say the same for National Socialism, which was all about antisemitism and the iron fist of control from day one. There are things in the Communist Manifesto that are admirable and reasonable, but not Mein Kampf.
So if you had to choose a side, which would it be?
And this is exactly why, though many left leaning people are loathe to do it, you need to be somewhat prepared for violent conflict. I don’t care if it’s getting a CCL and learning tactical/defensive shooting skills or just getting an armor plate for your backpack, and pre-preparing for protests by memorizing potential escape routes.
As much as people would love to think that tolerance and peace will always win, you could line up like lambs to the slaughter, and these assholes would cut throats all day long. Gleefully.
The alt-right rhetoric has prepped these people for a race war, and is constantly telling them that their enemies are invading and will end their way of life. That’s not a rhetoric that will sit down and negotiate or listen to reason.
As much as it plays into the “look at the violent alt-left” Faux news/Breitbart BS, to have pictures of Antifa in body armor with shields and bats, that’s kind of the place necessity has taken us to. Don’t swing first antifa, but if you have to swing to protect yourselves or others, make it count.
On a scale of Pyongyang=10, USA=4, Somalia=0, I’m about a 2. Where are you??
(Edit) In much the same way, there are (yes!) literally hundreds of millions of people who are neither leftists nor Nazis. That is a point I will continue to make.
Oh, I never assumed that you personally weren’t. The message/tirade was meant more for the peanut gallery we usually get here promoting peace regardless of the situation.
In an idealized world, yes peace would be lovely. In the ugly real world, you sometimes are forced to flee or fight. Even if peace is the ultimate goal, people are increasingly going to have to choose to fight, flee, or become a martyr…
