One does have to remember that taking legal and/or campaign advice from a clearly intoxicated Rudy Giuliani isn’t necessarily any worse than taking advice from a sober Rudy Giuliani.
Al Schmidt, the only Republican official in Philadelphia to oversee voting during the 2020 presidential election, on Monday told the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol that with a single tweet, then-President Donald Trump unleashed a barrage of death threats against him and his family because of his refusal to back Trump’s false fraud claims.
The menacing threats, Schmidt said, came after a Nov. 11, 2020 tweet in which Trump referred to him as a “RINO” — a Republican In Name Only — and a “disaster on the massive election fraud and irregularities which took place in Philadelphia.”
“The threats prior to that tweet… were pretty general in nature,” Schmidt told the committee. After Trump’s tweet, Schmidt said, “the threats became much more specific, much more graphic.”
One message sent to a family member threatened to fatally shoot them and their children. “Heads on spikes. Treasonous Schmidts,” read the message, a screenshot of which appeared during his testimony.
One of Hofstadter’s essays on the subject is the absolute bell weather on the rise of the fringe right, and has come up A LOT the last 6 years.
If it was a Black guy with a traffic ticket they would have sent some one to arrest him in the waiting room.
He was a cooperating witness who provided video testimony and authorized his attorney to speak on his behalf at today’s hearing, he also asked the committee’s permission to be excused from appearing in person because his wife was giving birth.
Don’t get me wrong: Bill Stepien is a piece of human garbage who deserves wholesale condemnation for his role in Trump’s administration and election campaigns (among other things), but I can’t really condemn him for begging off to be with his wife today or condemn the committee for granting that request.
Oops.
I think the Capitol Police are a bit sus.
Unless that guy has a documented stairway fetish, that’s not a tourist.
“We’re coming for you like white on rice.”
It’s actually chilling, watching them all put up their phones to record things like the security area.
They don’t even feel the need to be surreptitious about it. Imagine if a group of brown or black people stood so openly casing the joint like that.
Which seems strange, considering how many capitol police were seriously injured and killed during the insurrection…
It’s a mixed bag. Many were killed or injured, while some were cooperating with the insurrectionists. It seems like the leaders in the Capitol Police who resigned because of the failure to protect the capitol should have stuck around to clean house of the insurrection-collaborators.
Imagining isn’t necessary, too many real life examples of the treatment they would receive.
Just look what happened to (not yet) Senator Warnock when he came to kneel and pray that things like obamacare wouldn’t be cut

Ryan Ashlock, 23, of Gardner, Kan., pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of trespassing on restricted grounds and admitted traveling with three other Proud Boys to D.C., where they linked up with a brother and sister from Arizona.
…
He is set to be sentenced Nov. 10 and faces up to a year in prison.
One hopes that we see this sooner rather than later…
