Babies are born 'in the 9th month. It is wrong. It has to change,' says Donald Trump

Except that if you look at what he meant to say it’s not any better. He was talking about stopping abortions on the 9th month

As a clinic escort, I see this sort of thing All. The. Time. “Pro-Life,” until it hits home.

Damn it, cutting me off! I was about to say that yeah, I just call them chinese gooseberries because kiwi is just a marketing term.

…at this point I don’t even remember what the thread’s topic was, to be honest.

“Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down, like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay. Between grief and nothing, I’ll take grief.”

Oh, that’s being thoroughly covered, don’t worry. This is just the necessary and welcome comic relief portion of his act.

Don’t be silly. The GOP is only concerned with controlling women’s bodies. In the case of inconvenient pregnancy abortion becomes another useful agent of control. Why is this so hard for lierals to understand? /s

Edited to remove bigoted terminology. Even in jest it turns my stomach.

So I was born in September and the longest I have ever been pregnant was 30 weeks 5 days. I guess I did it wrong both time.

But yeah, infertility sucks. Endometriosis sucks too. IVF sucks big. Pre eclampisa sucks. C sections suck. Hernia from c sections also suck. DVT from pregnancy really, really sucks.

Being told getting pregnant again will be too much stress on your body - the suckiest.

it might as well rain until september

I think that “anecdotal evidence” is still admissible under the current administration; just so long as it isn’t “evidence based” or “data driven”.

And now you’ve got me wondering what they were called before New Zealanders called them “Chinese gooseberries”—that is, what do people know them as in China?

All I’m finding is Actinidia chinensis, which isn’t what I’m looking for. Hmm, yes, I suppose there would be different words for them in different dialects…but what I mean is, like how we in the US may know, e.g., Chenopodium album as “lamb’s quarter” or “pigweed”…what do people in China think of kiwifruit/Chinese gooseberries as??

Chinese wikipedia page lists three alternative names for it: 奇異果, 獼猴桃 and 中國醋栗. Feeding these into Google Translate one character at a time, the translations are “odd different fruit”, “macaque monkey peach” and “in country vinegar chestnut” respectively. Disclaimer: I don’t know any Chinese.

Wow, interesting! I appreciate your dedication to information :grinning:

I don’t know any Chinese either. Wonder how close that is to everyday usage.

Jeezis. OK, to be clear, I’m not defending Trump (natch), nor am I defending what he meant to say. I’m just saying “everyone gaffes”, and compared to some other things Trump has said this is trivial. Obama said he “visited all 57 states” and the right wing echo-chamber harped on that for years-- does anyone really believe Obama thought there were 57 states, or was that wishful thinking on their part? I don’t think Trump really believes babies shouldn’t be “born in the 9th month”, but there are plenty of things Trump actually believes that are equally ridiculous. Banning non-existent 9th month abortions is certainly one of them.

Everyone makes a gaffe sooner or later, that’s true. No one is infallible.

BUT when you consider how much fuckery 45 has let fall out of his mouth on purpose, this is just one more demonstration that he is a bottomless fount of foolishness.
