Drink now. In fact, after the main news, I’m hitting the hardest stuff I have.
I killed the Aberlour Abunadha 119.8 proof, and I have some really horrible 129 proof moonshine that is absolute shite, but it’s palatable with Mio. Well hell, if I gotta vote for Joe now, my standards are a hell of a lot lower to begin with. And going from fine sherry cask asked single malt scotch (Bernie) to Mio and moonshine (Biden) is still better than Banker’s Club Gin sifted through a shit filled hobo sock (Trump)
The problem with this nuclear option is technically the Union ceases to exist meaning California, Texas, and New York being the bigger economically and population-wise can just walk away. What is the convention going to do? Start another civil war in 2020? Ultimately, the GOP knows they don’t want to touch that third rail cause then all bets are off, the US will be gone forever.
I wouldn’t - that’s my point - ‘back to normal’ means moderate picks - the only reason John Roberts ‘sides’ with the democrats is because he was a ‘moderate’ pick.
It is difficult enough to stay level, not even mentioning calm, these days. But I have the feeling that a lot more people will end up with timeouts tonight.
I’ll call it a day, and hope to see you after all the yelling stops.
The BEST thing the Biden campaign could do today, as in right now on April 8th is announce his VP pick and entire cabinet and then show the entire world the difference between a Biden administration and the failed reality TV star, con man p*ssy grabbing, multiple times bankrupt THUG and his “acting” class of clowns currently occupying the White House. These are not normal times and they call for an unconventional approach.
I get this. And I myself thought mine mattered most when the most was at stake, so last time- I voted by writing in Bernie.
I know that voting for Hillary would not have changed the result- and I still believe we would have gotten the backlash anyway.
But here’s the thing- I hate Joe Biden too. I’m voting for his tired geriatric uninspiring pathetic ass in Nov. though. Because for once, forget principles- principles were on display last time.
This time it’s sanity over fucking oblivion on display.
In real life, I am intensely stubborn- but I know that 8 years of Trump will be admitting, fully, that truth and decency just fundamentally dont and never will matter again.
I cannot, will not, must not let that happen- at any cost.
If the world around you is nuclear waste and there’s nothing left, who will be there to appreciate you stuck to your principles?
I say vote Joe- then next day, build guillotines. Hold a human being’s ass to the fire who will squirm like a human- Trump is happy enough to light democracy and this country on fire and take us all with him.
Blah. It’s like voting for prom king. Looking on the bright side, Bernie won’t have to shake hands with any more slime balls, putting his health at risk.
If a prom king held the fate of the Supreme Court in his hands and was also in charge of guiding the country through one of the worst disease pandemics in modern history.
Okay so some serious news for anyone who made it this far-
(and yes, I actually DID read nearly 200 unique comments from all of you- and weighed their thoughts)
Just read Bernie is staying on the ballot till the convention, so you can still vote for him even though he will not win.
He is doing this to continue to get pledged delegates so that even though he’s losing he will have more clout at the convention to beat the moderates over the head with and hopefully make the DNC more liberal.
So it won’t matter at this point who you vote for but please vote- and so you can still vote Bernie, and make his views matter, give Biden a slap in the face- before you’re forced to choose him or Cheeto in Nov.
Damnit all this happened before I even got to vote because my primary in PA hasn’t even happened yet- so I’m fucking voting for Bernie- since there is no consequence anymore at this point and can only help his views
I feel like the meshing of pop culture and politics has rendered the gravity of the position and the public’s perception of it really shallow. Biden is the poster child of career politicians in the old boy’s clubs of the country. Bernie was pushed out of the cool kids crowd because the general population couldn’t get on that guy’s level that would take us out of the stone age.
Perhaps I misunderstood the tone or intent of your last post, but that’s exactly what I thought you were doing when you wrote that this election was like voting for Prom King.
Now that the field has been cleared, the next step includes Obama fully endorsing Biden. I wonder though if Obama is thinking of how that endorsement could affect his own legacy; would he pressure Biden to promise (and campaign on?) the reinstitution of all Obama accomplishments that Trump has short-circuited and pulled back, for instance? Who knows. But I don’t think Obama would sully his own good name and waste his endorsement (and the expected supporting speeches) on a former veep who won’t work to deliver the goods; Obama is too savvy to not see Biden’s connection to him as the public sees it; Biden is the heir apparent – whether Obama likes it or not.
Technically none, and neither would Sanders plan have done. Effectively, all the ones with good public health care, as almost nobody in them uses private care except perhaps as a supplement, which is also permitted in M4A.
Biden has a limited imagination, which means he is likely to try Merrick Garland again. MG is almost the textbook definition of centrist judge, and people on the left will not be pleased with his criminal record, but he has strong commitments to federal powers of regulation and (reading between the lines) to Roe, so he is hugely preferable to any of the GOP picks currently on the bench.
Overall, I expect we’d see appointments from Biden of people that he worked with as Obama’s VP, simply because it is always easier to work with people you’ve worked with before if you’re on the same political wavelength. This means people who aren’t as progressive as Bernie would have appointed, but miles better than the lists that “wealthy donors” are reputed to be floating.
