(That actually made it into Friday’s paper – I thought it was going to be about “GEO”*, whoever or whatever that is…)
(*as seen on e.g. the Metro overpass)
This video says everything about why Joe, whatever his faults might be, is DEFINITELY not the other guy. I tear up every time I watch it.
Edited to remove bits that made it sound like I was addressing Melizmatic directly when that was not my intent.
This bit right here:
“his reign of destruction, only tempered by incompetence”
Deeply resonates.
Thank fuck they were not very competent in their nefariousness…
Anyone with thoughts along that line, should seriously consider reviewing Toomey’s record on education, deregulation, environment, Obamacare, LGBT rights, pro-choice, Trump impeachment, immigration, Israeli settlements, etc.
There was a comment from one of the characters in Law & Order, on how criminals made it easy to be caught: “Thank god they’re stupid.”
Good line, but L&O is Copaganda.
Yes, yes, I know. But where else can I see rich, privileged, white crooks get thrown into jail?
Good point;
I used to watch the original CSI & Dexter for the same reason*… although in Dexter the rich privileged White crooks often got thrown into the ocean, in multiple pieces.
*And also all the eye candy. I am a sucker for the eye candy.
It’s even better because of who is saying it – a Catholic nun, someone who you can’t possibly frame as being pro-abortion!
Anyway, on the election results: while it’s obviously too early to draw any far-reaching conclusions, it seems to me that a lot more people than usual voted split ticket, people who voted for Biden for President, and then went on to vote Republican in the other races.
It seems to me that it would be a very good idea for the Democrats to look into if there are ways to win the support of at least some of these people in 2022 midterms, without abandoning the interests of the core Democratic voter base, of course.
You’ve suddenly made me excited for a pardon!
Though I guess if they pull a Nixon and pardon him preemptively before he is charged then there will never be any investigations in the first place and he will not be questioned?
A bigger hello back, glad to se you’ve weathered the storm!
That’s literally telling us they made a political calculation NOT to run on progressive ideals, despite popular support. Remind me again: Dems don’t engage in political calculations?
Politics are politics, and the parties constantly engage in calculating what will get them to victory. Why did Biden come out so strongly for the crime bill in the 90’s? Why did Clinton fail to allow gays in the military and, instead, order the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy? Why did Obama continue bombing civilians with drones? Why were so many Dems against gay marriage during the early 2000’s?
Political calculations.
Take a deep breath. Yes, lots of us have had those same concerns. We’re afraid that after all (waves hands at Trump world) “THIS”, in the last seconds of a dying regime they will snatch victory from us and hand it back to the bloviator in chief.
However… I want you to close your eyes and remember January 21st, 2017. Not the 20th, his innaguration day, but the NEXT day. Remember what happened that day. I stood crushed in a crowd of over half a million people in Washington DC alone. More than 3 million came out that day around the country, and more around the world. Donnie hadn’t even done anything yet, but we knew what he meant for us. For the world.
The GOP knows what will happen if they try Constitutional shenanigans. They know if they throw Constitutional Crisis in to pinch hit in the bottom of the 9th, there’s going to be hell to pay. The resulting protests will make that 3 million person march seem like a fucking family picnic. This country is going to be on fire. They are risking civil unrest the likes of which they’ve never seen, and for which they do not have the police to stop. The country will grind to a complete fucking halt for days, or even weeks, and the rich profiteers will see their money dry up. Stock market will nose dive.
And if there’s ONE THING you don’t fuck with, it’s the profits of the people who pull the strings.
So yes, keep it in mind. Be ready if it happens. But understand, they’re doing the same calculation and they know which way the winds are blowing.
Some of the first batches were counted late yesterday in Georgia. They only made things worse for Trump and broke heavily for Biden. What a surprise… I guess calling soldiers “losers” and letting Russia put bounties on their heads might, in hindsight, have been bad ideas. Oops!
Any time soon being “about nine minutes” but otherwise, yeah, we are.
Yeah, I may be old, but I ain’t THAT old!
C’mon, we’re enjoying rubbing someone’s orange nose in it for a change…
TBH, I feel a bit better today about my immediate neighbors. Delco had 75% turnout - Biden got 63% of the vote vs. 36% for the incumbent. Dems dominated every contest except for one.
I’m disappointed in NC, but my county is the ‘bluest’ by far. Durham even beat Orange County by a long shot, which is notable because Orange contains UNC, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro; the latter of which is pretty much 24/7 Portlandia fanfic.
ETA: and by ‘bluest’ I mean that 18% of Durham County voted for McDonald, vs. 23.8% of Orange County. Suck it [other] hipsters!!!
