Thanks for this. Ruby Bridges (the young girl) was interviewed about her new memoir this morning on NPR. It’s worth a listen.
Technically ‘you’ can be second person singular or second person plural, but it’s horribly inadequate for the job of both.
Sometimes I attempt to use ‘you’ in plural while addressing my students, and it doesn’t go well. I’ll get individual replies from announcements from students who thought it was just about them, individually. I’ll get complaints. It’s a problem. Y’all removes this problem.
Wait, what?
In the sense that every time Trump goes golfing he generates costs for the Secret Service.
Just didn’t realize he was out golfing today, of all days.
Yeah, I suppose I am new here, why do you ask?
Yeah, run the ground hitting!!
Twitter images aren’t visible to me, but I feel pretty comfortable clicking that little heart button anyway.
Try the link.
Trump Tower will be henceforth known as “Loser Tower”. Trump branded steaks will be steaks for losers. Trump golf courses will be golf for losers. Anybody supporting Trump businesses must like associating themselves with losers.
I’ve never given a single dime to pay per view for any event, but even if it was 20 bucks per minute, you bet your ass I’d shell out the cash to watch that, in a heartbeat.
Obscure references to 60s cartoons are greatly appreciated here.
Heh. My dad on hearing the news “He [Trump] will bite into one of his carpets.”
I wanna see that whole family dumped on a livable but deserted island. With all the materials and tools necessary to build a few houses.
Because if you really wanna recover some of the staggering cost of the past four years, you need the kind of pay per view that can rake it in day after day for weeks and months and years. Or, ya know, a couple weeks into winter, however it goes.
(BTW: Prior to “getting it right”, the Munchkin cast – per accounts, cheeky – replaced “witch” with “bitch” in the routine.)
I guess I’ll have to pick up and watch Dexter now.
With a Biden/Harris win, one small point (amongst the much greater points) I can celebrate on (being a cinephile) is perhaps now being able — maybe — to finally get to the several dramas still sitting in our unwatched DVD pile… ones with strong themes of historical injustice. For the past few years, I’ve found it impossible to get through those genres (even when you know there will be some kind of justice at the denouement) without wanting to punch through the screen and scream my head off… and worse. I’m talking about heart-pounding stress here! So… Mark Felt… 12 Years a Slave… and Trumbo… here I come!
We could see if the Trumps are actually the “builders” they claim to be. Maybe they could know what it feels like to live in the kind of slums that gave them their wealth.
