Biden keeps this framed 'Hagar the Horrible' cartoon behind his laptop

You can never trust nihilists. They believe in nothing, ya know.

An old man has a big desk and a lamp? The swine.
Seriously, what is this garbage?
I’m impressed he can use both a smartphone and a laptop easily. My folks are younger than him and I have to explain to them how to use the camera.

I mean, are we really gonna deduct points because he doesn’t have a couple Funko pops and a lava lamp?

Since most classic modern furniture was designed before this “old man” was born, you have to realize that brass lamp, oak desk is a choice, not an inevitable circumstance of the man’s age.

He is not lacking modern workplace furniture because he is an old man. He is choosing stodgy furnishings that project the image of “old money” because that’s the image he wants to project.

Its a choice, and a telling one. Thats what this garbage is.

Yes, his desk lamp, that’s what the problem is. /s

No, we are going to deduct points because the man we are settling for to vote for president chooses to identify with stock brokers and wall street board of directors instead of your run of the mill tech start up or business with a progressive workplace.

So as I said, D, down from a C if you want to measure the deduct.

We may have to disagree about whether avoiding looking like a run of the mill tech start up is a good or bad thing.

I hate to break it to you, but you are using the same logic as trump when he says the pandemic problem is the testing. Look deeper. The man fancies himself an old school executive with a richly paneled office and heavy dark curtains. You can be sure that thinking extends from furnishings to policy.

There are many flavors of tech start up, but I say with some confidence none of them involve big oak desks.

Watching the course of Biden’s life and prior campaigns and seeing the strip, I would wager the tacks are on the seat of the chair and pointed upwards.

Hmmm…

I’m not sure this thesis of heavy oak desks and brass lamps translating directly into policy choices is on firm ground, my friend.

I know who Biden is. All you need to do is look at his record. The next three and a half months of armchair feng shui, font analysis and discussions of his Omega Seamaster watch will be fun though.

And I grew up in DC, where bankster furnishings are thick enough to trip over. That lamp expresses slightly more unique taste than most of them (I wouldn’t even mind having it myself), though the stain on the desk is a little light for my taste.

I’ll be sure to register myself at the nearest conspiracy theory nuthouse.

(I generally appreciate your comments. Nothing personal in my sarcasm. I just can’t take furniture-based political analysis seriously.)

One of the things “heavy oak desk“ instead of “Ikea particleboard special” says to me is that this is a person who is in the game for the long haul, not a newbie who is flying by the seat of their pants waiting for the company to go public so they can cash out their stock options.

Especially when it’s probably the same piece of furniture he’s used for decades, and something his successors may well use for decades to come.

Why Me? Why Not?

Isn’t that his campaign slogan?

Yeah, tech start-ups!
I refuse to elect anyone who isn’t working out of a predatory rental open plan share-office, off of a scratch & dent glass IKEA trestle desk. If they have enough means to avoid that, they should fake it anyway, for authenticity.

exactly - a sucker is bon every day.

Has nothing to do with means - you can spend on nice modern furniture as much or more than heavy oak. He’s made a choice on what he wants to project - there is nothing to debate about it.

So to be clear, do you also condemn Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren because they have oak desks in their offices instead of disposable Ikea-grade junk? Or is this odd line of attack one that you reserve only for Biden?

Seriously. All my best furniture was purchased from yard sales or inherited. I’ve got lots of oak in my house, and it’s far superior in quality and durability to anything available from IKEA. New for the sake of new is not always an upgrade. As has been pointed out above, plenty of very progressive politicians recognize the value in quality oak furniture.
