Billionaire "centrist" Howard Schultz tweets column calling Elizabeth Warren "Fauxcahontas"

Schultz is a Republican who possibly, maybe, doesn’t hate on minorities as much as the average Republican.

I’m actually starting to think if he runs, he may actually pull more votes from the Republicans than Democrats. I like to think Democrats are smart enough to see through this kind of bull shit.

Perhaps a little time in a nursing home with a window overlooking the dumpster.

Apologies to Bojack.

Can you even be a ‘centrist’ and a billionaire?

Sure, in the weak sense that billionaires who don’t have a hobby of dominionism or restoring 18th century environmental regulations(back before the Alkali Act ruined everything by replacing tort law with the dead hand of state oppression, man!) are less radical than the ones who do; but ‘centrist’?

That degree of immunity to your social context required isn’t merely unlikely; it would involve a level of disconnection from reality that would probably qualify you for a DSM slot.

This isn’t there until you reach tier 1 user, I too could not find it when I first registered here. Bit weird but whatever.

Basic members can’t edit their comments?

Bummer.

He seems to be pro-choice. That’s probably enough to pretty much kill his chances of siphoning off many republican votes.

Basic is tier 1, they can edit. Tier 0 can’t, which seems odd but most people don’t spend a lot of time in it. I found it confusing that the button suddenly appeared.

Tier zero doesn’t have an official name, aside from “new?”

Not to mention all those sacrilegious coffee cups he tries to make good Christians drink out of every Christmas!

That’s what the discourse article calls it yes.

My vote in California means fuck all, so signaling toward a third alternative is the only possible value it has and I’d certainly rather have the Starbucks guy than anyone the Dems seem likely to nominate.

I wouldn’t.

Schultz is just a Republican who can see what is coming in 2020: Trump completely unviable, the Republican party in total disgrace, and a clear win for the Democrats.

So he thinks, “I’ll be an ‘independent’ so I’m not associated with the Repugs, and get a lot of the Republicans who quit the Trump party, the independents, and enough Democrats scared of the left wing to win”. Being an independent avoids any nasty debates in primary season, too.

But he’s just Trump all over again. Take away a few nasty “grab em by the pussy” comments and he’s just Trump part II. Presumably without Russian collusion, too.

The good news is that he possesses even less charm than Mitt Romney and is very unlikely to gain traction, the current media swoon notwithstanding. Remember the media tried to promote Phil Gramm of all people as a front runner back in 1996. I see Schultz doing just about as well.

Are you a billionaire? Because as far as I can tell the only thing Schultz has to offer than the Democratic candidates don’t is a set of policies that would be even friendlier to rich people, while dismissing tried-and-true ideas that would benefit ordinary Americans (like “medicare for all”) as unobtainable fantasy.

“Let’s scale back those expectations a bit” is not my idea of a visionary progressive leader.
