British invader turned

Nice work. The people that fail the written test are usually folks that speak no English.

Excellent. Your ride is here to pick you up, fellow American.

But why? Iā€™m sorry.

This raises the usual question. How many Americans would pass the test?

One benefit of the Pittsburgh area is that when the inevitable zombie apocalypse happens, the zombies there will be the traditional George Romero shambling type. Remember that Rob came from Britain, where as we saw from ā€œ28 Days Laterā€, zombies are faster and more aggressive.

Did they seize your United jerseys, and issue you a Steelerā€™s jersey. Sorry if you are not a United fan, but as an American you didnā€™t think I was going to say Hull city did you?

Oh hell if I got asked a lot of those questions out of the blue I know I wouldnā€™t pass cause I have had to fill my head with all kinds of other things for life. LIke when I opened my 2nd year E&M physics text and went yeah, I should know what the hell I am looking at as I made a B in this class.
If given a refresher course yes I bet all us native 'murricans can pass it.
And congrats @beschizza, welcome to the land of Wall Drug and giant frying pans.

Congratulations, Rob!

My daughter got no test and no ceremony -because she was two years old. But she could recite the pledge of allegiance (with two-year-old pronunciation), and insisted the INS staff listen to it.

Please will you adopt me so I too can become a US citizen? I donā€™t have to call you dad, if you feel like that would make it weird. You can throw sport-balls for me to catch in the civic recreation zone, and teach me to neutralize animals in the woods (I already know how to do this, but you can teach me how to identify which American animals are counter-revolutionary).

Congratulations! Good for you. Iā€™m in the process of renouncing my US citizenship. Iā€™ve lived in Canada for the last 13 years and each time I go back to the states, I feel less and less American. I feel more confusion about how a country that is so great in so many ways can be so horrible in so many others.

Canada also has problems, but I have a good life here and I never want to move back.

That and the cost of keeping my US citizenship is high (FACTCA, FBAR, expensive accountants required to file US taxes, etc). I no longer want to be an American.

I see the irony in that most of the world would love to become American, whereas I am paying $$$ in order to stop being one. Maybe more people should consider becoming Canadian insteadā€¦

Perhaps there should be a nationality trading system?

Hereā€™s $80,000 ā€“ youā€™ll be moving to the Central African Republic where your money will be stolen immediately.

Congratulations!

Welcome aboard, fellow citizen.

You know, being undeportable ā€“ it changes everything!

Will they still pay you in haggis and beer?

I feel sorry for you. Iā€™ve been everywhere in the US- and Iā€™m happily in Pittsburgh. You obviously have never been here before, or you havenā€™t been here in the last 5 years.

It did suck at one time- but now Iā€™d rather live here than Seattle. Or NYC. Itā€™s a cool place that hasnā€™t been overrun by trendy assholes completely. There is a lot of incredible food and endless stuff to do. And real culture everywhere.

I just came from a graduation ceremony for the Tepper School Of Business at Carnegie Mellon today- and noticed people from more countries than I could count graduating. If they are moving half the world away to come to Pittsburgh in those numbers with that kind of money, there is a very good reason.

I donā€™t know Rob, but Iā€™m guessing he chose to stay here this long for a reason- maybe same reason as those people. Itā€™s the whole world in a basket here- food, culture, history, all of it. Keep believing itā€™s just some dirty forgotten steeltown. You just donā€™t know the secret yet, and since so many people donā€™t get that, it leaves it liveable for us!

And to Rob- kick ass! Congratulations! Now, forget apple pie- go get the most delicious and American of all foods- real BBQ, proper smoked meat. Theres a good place in Brookline called SmoQ Pitt I went today, on par with stuff out west. Eat smoked meat and youā€™ll fit right in anywhere in the US
