Everybody knows you never go full Anderson.
Hideaki Anno got death threats because people were so dissatisfied with the ending.
Thanks to magazines published back in the day, some of the first things I heard about Eva were about the response to the ending. But I’m curious what it was like to experience those episodes in real time – knowing nothing – as a normal viewer who wasn’t a toxic entitled person.
I’ve been into The Prisoner since seeing it live in the UK on first repeat some time in the 1970s because I’m a bit too young to have watched it live. I’ve got the boxed set.
The final episode is confusing but I don’t think that justifies a remake. The whole programme was about deception and delusion. Let its finale remain as the expression of that.
I’d think that Yorgos Lanthimos would understand and deliver the goods for this RUMORED adaptation. He did Poor Things, so he has the bona fides when it comes to color, surrealism, and dark humor.
Yup. Every couple of years it gets a rewatch.
As I have already said in the other thread, for me The Prisoner is the perfect metaphor for going through a midlife crisis.
Well, how did I get here? It’s kinda nice, but… Seriously, how did I get here? How do I get out of here? What do the people around me want from me? Who can help me; who can I trust? How do I work this? Where is that large automobile? This is not my beautiful house McMansion. Where does this road lead to, nowhere?
Local service only.
That is one weird pound sign. Or perhaps that was the symbol for currency used in the village?
Have you seen Following? That movie’s frequently hilarious, and my second favorite Nolan after The Prestige. I agree with you about his more recent movies, though.
I love the Original. There was no miniseries. There is no actors who can play #6 or #2. Create new content, don’t ruin good products.
see also, lost. or sopranos maybe? but mostly lost.
I thought the story went that it would have made a lot more sense, as thee were meant to be more episodes, but they got funding pulled, and went ham tying (or, well, not…) everything up?
“A boyo could have a great day out in Swansea with that gear, look you.”
Frank Hovis.
Groats?
… you may be on to something there
“Secret Agent” was McGoohan’s thirties, and then he turned forty on “The Prisoner”
Part of the problem in casting a new “Prisoner” is we don’t really have a thirtysomething actor who is identified in the the public imagination as “the spy”
Matt Damon maybe (or even Sandra Oh) but anybody we could think of are past their midlife crisis eras and about ready to settle down in The Village without making much of a fuss
Taron Egerton?
