Same here. But in addition to the jerks who did stuff like that in HS, there were the nerds bullied and belittled by them who never got over wanting to be on top. In some ways, the latter are even worse in terms of outcomes – see Gingrich or Ben Shapiro or Stephen Miller. Whatever Gaetz is, from his behaviour it’s clear he never got over high school.

This was something that happened at one HS in our local district during the 1990s and it was a HUGE scandal. The school was actually in a neighboring town, but students who attend this HS are also from our city.
The cops and the school district initially took it very seriously, but I want to say that nothing happened to these fine (blech) young men. I’ll have to reread The New Yorker article to know for sure. And yes, when I heard about Gaetz, this was my first thought.

Gaetz is my age. He watched those movies as a teenager in the 90s as reruns on TV or VHS rentals. And apparently thought, yeah, that guy, the creepy sex predator, I should be like him.

Remember that not one of Gaetz’s Republican colleagues came forward to call him out on this reprehensible behavior before he was publicly revealed to be under investigation. Not one. Even now the overwhelming response from the GOP is deafening silence.
