This seems plausible to me. It gives them wider, and longer coverage to block derivative works. When Snow White’s animated version expires, they have a few more decades of the live action version they can use to keep others from making any derivative works that looks and feels similar to the Disney version. Count on them to make a second or even third remake over the next century, even if they barely break even.
Sort of like how pharmaceutical companies come up with novel uses for the same compound and block generics from coming into the market.
In the PS5 videogame he lives in Harlem. I guess the game designers didn’t think anyone would know the difference.
My son knew where the bathrooms were at the lobby of the statue of liberty because of the first level of Deus Ex (the original). And I was mapping out a battery facility in the desert near Los Vegas and realized I knew what all of the towns nearby were because of Fallout New Vegas. I wonder what the term for this is…
Are they still miners? They looks like Lost Boys. Or a Ren Faire troop?
It was covered in the game’s story. They moved into his abuela’s apartment after his dad died.
So this is a different universe than the “Into the Spiderverse” version… interesting.
Did they mention what happened to the northern couple of miles of Manhattan?
The Spider-Man PS4 and PS5 games are definitely a different universe from the films, and I believe you can spot the game’s Spider-Man in the hub of Spider-People in the second film.
I’ve had this happen a few times. I knew my way around the British Museum because I’d explored it in a Sherlock Holmes game. There should be a term for the opposite too- when I finally got to visit the American Museum of Natural History in New York, I discovered that Parasite Eve’s version of the interior was 100% fictional.
Of course they’re upset about a children’s movie! How else are they going to indoctrinate their children and grandchildren?
The reason for those changes is that the game is limited to a mini-sized version of Manhattan, because modeling all of New York City would have taken at least twice as long and required a box with at least twice as much memory. Queens isn’t in the game either.
Sure, but it could be a tactic like Warner Bros would use if you made a Superman movie where he flies. The character will soon be (or is, in the case of Pooh) public domain, but have fun defending yourself in court proving that you aren’t using elements from the later (non-public domain) film(s). I believe that was part of the arguments used in the Enola Holmes suit (which got settled.)

Others have already been making non-Disney Snow White adaptations for generations so it’s not exactly an impossible task to make a version that doesn’t infringe on a specific film.

Incidentally in this 1905 version of Snow White and Rose Red they are sisters, named somewhat arbitrarily (more about demeanor than complexion) by their mother after some roses outside the kitchen window.
…and making a rectangle with Sugar Hill and the Heights in it would also have given them a chunk of the Bronx. Somewhere they have to have a border… but instead of having a “you’re leaving the playable area” like say Horizons, they made an artificial natural barrier by making the Harlem River do a right turn.
So sure, I get the practical bit, but there are load points already in sections of the game… I think the main reason was the designers didnt think there was enough up there to be interesting. In the next one apparently a big battle takes place in a fish market that has replaced Astoria Park. But practically Spiderman doesn’t have a lot to do when all of the houses are two stories.
You’ve missed the point. The character’s name directly references her skin colour.
I’m saying that applying that name to a actress who isn’t notably whiter than the average pink-skinned northern European seems odd.
An albino of any ethnicity would work fine. It wouldn’t match the rest of the character’s traditional description, but that seems less critical than matching with the character’s name.
Or use anyone of any ethnicity, keep the story and change the character’s name.
Or keep whatever and change the reason for the character’s name. It’s not that hard.

But… but THE INTEGRITY OF THE AUTHORITY OF THE AUTHOR!!! /s
A dwarve.
