Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

I gotta go with… WTF CDC? It looks like they put this out yesterday.

NYC was the canary for the rest of the nation in 2020.

Wear a mask so you won’t get sick.

Whatever happened to also wearing one so others don’t get sick?

I often think individualism is as bad a disease or worse than Covid.

… I thought the whole point was “wear a mask so other people won’t get sick”

That’s my primary reason for doing so, even when not sick. If I’m carrying something, but am asymptomatic, I would hate to spread it…

I watched the video, and can only say so far that I sure hope it’s true that relief for long Covid and more can be so simple. :crossed_fingers:

Another anecdotal report, I’m mainly over the viruse’s immediate effects, but seem to be suffering some of the “long COVID” symptoms. Inflammation, especially. It’s hitting every single muscle or tendon I’d had previous injuries in. Sometimes it’s just aches and pains, sometimes it feels like someone has a voodoo doll of me and they’re poking needles into my knees or back, and it sends a fiery burning pain down the whole tendon or muscle.
I know it’s different for everyone, but this is not something you want to fuck around with, or give to your family.
Be safe, fellow mutants.

Honestly, I did not know it was still around, but there you go.

This interested me. though:

Already, the World Health Organization’s vaccine advisory committee has advised that countries this year should switch to monovalent vaccines that target the XBB lineage, the latest omicron sublineage to dominate transmission. In a statement released May 18, WHO advisers recommended that countries ditch the current bivalent formulas—which target both the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 virus and an omicron subvariant—because continuing to target the ancestral strain doesn’t seem to boost protection against current strains. Moreover, keeping the ancestral strain in the shots “reduces the concentration of the new target antigen(s) as compared to monovalent vaccines.”

It is an ever-moving target.

Seems like we should give a moment to remember that they jumped in and created something that worked AT THE TIME when the world needed it, respect that, and then accept that now we have 2.0 versions that work better.

In other news, a formerly cheap diabetes drug is no longer cheap (probably)

Metformin has been demonstrated to have a plethora (we don’t use that word enough!) of health benefits. This is good news, but I’m not too shocked. This is a pluripotent just plain good drug.

A word of caution to everyone but you, @anon29537550: it can have severe side effects, as you can find out if you dive into the deeps of the medical information available. Or just do a quick check on the Wikipedia.

(I know you didn’t mean “plain good drug” to be interpreted as “go get the stuff, it is safe and you should try it”. However, since I very recently had discussions about self-medication I did not expect to have with these particular persons, I am, yet again, a bit shaken in my assumptions. :scream:)

Wackadoodle was wackadoodling today, notice she was also upset about using the word people instead of woman.

I’d also like to talk to you on behalf of all the pregnant women—not people as you call them. To quote you on August 8, 2021, ‘CDC encourages all pregnant people—it’s women, by the way—[and those] who are thinking about becoming pregnant and those breastfeeding to get vaccinated to protect themselves from covid-19. [holds up a chart] This has also been ignored, the amount of miscarriages and stillbirths that increased drastically due to your advice to get vaccinated. Pregnant women again, not people.

New ways to die from covid: unstoppable diarrhea that results in sepsis and organ failure.
Caveat: all indicated cases were unvaccinated. May be NSFW.
