Cool facts about sliced bread

Buttering one’s bread before toasting it? People have gone to war over less!

@PPK is to be trusted on this. I have one of those and it is the finest toaster ever. Mine is a four-slot, and they also come in two-slot as well as the illustrated three-slot.

And the sandwich cages they come with are a boon when the craving for a toasted cheese sandwich arrives. (Which, to be fair to @audible, is the one occasion when butter is applied before toasting, and perversely it is applied to the outside of the sandwich.)

Does it make a great “TICK,TICK,TICK” noise as the timer winds down? The Dualit 4 slotters we had on the Liverpool Bay class container ships did and it remains a fond memory of late night* snacks after a gruelling day down the engine room!

*and an off duty treat when on watches.

That’s the one benefit of toasting without a toaster. It produces a very different texture since it’s basically cooking in the butter. Not for the easily distracted though. It’s a bit to easy to set the fish grill on fire if walk off for a moment.
