Until the 2008 primary, I had no idea that sexism was even more prevalent than racism, but since then I’ve totally come to believe that’s true.
I don’t know about “worse,” but I do know that there exists a wide range of fuckery when it comes to “minorities” in this country; and IMO they are all equally shitty… and that’s coming from someone who experiences both aforementioned 'ism’s regularly.
Christ. Imagen, if you will, a G7 meeting if that nutjob gets actually elected. The german chancellor, the french president, the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and Canada and him sitting at one table. I tell you, this is how world wars start.
Yes, I think he’s more loathed, but I think it’s by a different type of person- The Clinton haters are driven by outrage and want to vent. The Trump haters are rolling their eyes going “nobody could be stupid enough to actually vote for him”. One of those people is more likely to show up than the other…
I think we’re in the early stages of a revolution. I think there’s a good chance that it will be a peaceful one, like the New Deal or Glasnost, rather than French style- But it’s happening. Right now, literally anything is possible.
I don’t want to speculate about why you chose this video, but I hate it. I’m paraphrasing, but: “Sometimes a man just has to give in?” “Sometimes, as cliche as it seems, a man has to be there for her?” If I have to explain why this is offensive, I may just quit it all and live in a yurt.
I think you might be considering the populace as being just a bunch of white men. There are huge segments of the population who Trump is not only being belligerent to, but some of whom he’s literally threatening in many different ways, some quite seriously. Some white dudes might be inclined to just roll their eyes since it means less to them. Other people who see themselves, their friends, or their families belittled, verbally attacked, and threatened in various ways seem unlikely to me to just roll their eyes.
Swam in Lake Lurleen (George’s wife) this weekend. My five-year-old daughter asked who Lurleen was and my husband had a great laugh while I tried to explain the concept of “puppet regime” to her.
Judging what’s worse is a separate question from the reality of the pervasiveness of sexism and how it affects judgments of women in politics, esp. a woman running for role of the head of the executive branch and world leader. Look around and consider how many mind-bogglingly sexist attacks against Clinton come from people who’d never say something similarly racist. Still, if you think it’s unlikely that a women would face at least as massive a hurdle due to sexism as a black man would due to racism, you should ask some women you know about it.
So, I’m relatively new here (a little more than a month), but I’d like to say how much I appreciate that no one has called me a femi-nazi (waiting … waiting … for next smart ass to do so). Seriously, y’all are quality people.
In the movie White Chicks, both Marlon and Shawn Waynans’ characters are seriously ‘taken aback’ when they each get hit on while posing as women for an assignment.
The subtle inference is that they had no frame of reference for what most women deal with every single day:
But to be fair there’s also some scathing commentary about the self hatred of many Black folk, as shown at the end where Terry Crews’ character is more offended that Marlon is Black than he is at the fact that Marlon is male…
