Elderly man shoved to ground by Buffalo cops in horrific footage

Needs way more tanks, teargas, and crowd-control bullets. I mean, we have video evidence that this group is violent and destructive, right?

I love the show, but it really is pretty grim for the most part. It gets some of our modern society right on the nose, which is depressing.

Exactly, and the last thing I need is to be depressed by my “entertainment.”

Real life already fills that niche more than adequately.

I just can’t get into the heads of the cops and firefighters who showed up at the courthouse for the arraignment today to support the accused. In what world is “I was only following orders” a justification for what happened? You might as well say “I am a robot, incapable of thought, empathy, or emotion.”

I also seriously doubt that even the most sadistic commanding officer would have the forethought to say “if a 75-year-old man approaches you for any reason then shove him roughly to the ground and walk away without checking to see if he requires medical aid.”

so many we’d have trouble listing them all

Law enforcement really don’t know or care how their Thin Blue Line act looks to everybody else

Some 650 people, Portland officers and their friends and families, rallied downtown Tuesday to protest recent command decisions. They carried signs and wore freshly printed blue T-shirts bearing the motto, “I Am Chris Humphreys.”

Humphreys is the 10-year veteran at the heart of two recent high-profile incidents of police force. Three years ago, he chased and then fell on James Chasse, the schizophrenic man kicked and Tasered by police after they spotted him urinating on a Pearl District sidewalk. Chasse died in police custody from blunt force trauma to the chest.

For fucks sake, why a young fit cop needs to hit a 75 yrs old man that way? I wouldn’t do that even if the man in front of me was Hitler himself. There’s no excuse for that cop: he’s a criminal.

I like this part from Adam Savage:

Is it the khaki shorts?? That must be it, it’s the khaki shorts.

Because of this kind of training, this problem isn’t going to go away any time soon, even if there was any political effort to that end. These people think they are in a constant war, and probably view the task of “serving” the public as something completely alien and beneath them. They’d rather shoot the public in the face and laugh at it bleeding.

The video linked in the first tweet you posted ends with “they were released without bail”.

I don’t even need to invoke Jack’s complete lack of surprise here. It is all legally sound, we have to assume. From the shoving over not stopping to help to not needing a bailout.

I can hate that, and I want change, but I have to admit that, in the current system, this is quite surely legal and probably even advised by orders and regulations.

That does not make any of this acceptable.
Fuck the system that makes this normal.

And fuck those supporters. Sideways.

Really can’t tell if this is better or worse. Pretty sure it’s worse, though.

“If you murder someone live on camera, we’re not paying for your lawyers.”

“Fuck you, then. I am not paying you a minimal amount in dues just to be told I can’t murder people.”

Speaking of which…

I’m sensing a pattern here (which is of course the point):

Anyone who even tries to be a “good cop” is beaten, charged with crimes and fired without pension.

This case is exactly what came to mind when I saw “Duty to Intevene” on the “Reform” demands. This is what that gets you.

There are several cases like that, very few get much publicity. But yeah, there are good cops. They either quit or get fired. I leave calculating the results to the reader.

I never got the full story, but I know that my paternal grandfather quit his job as a cop after a brief career in the Cleveland PD after becoming disgusted at how corrupt the department was. He ended up moving his family to California and getting a job as a postal worker instead.
