Elections 2018

You can vote for whomever you like. Which includes on certain ballots being able to write in Daffy Duck if that floats your boat.

But we are in a predominantly two party system when it comes to voting in the major election categories. And whether you want to hear this or not it is the truth…Voting for an independent or writing in a vote is LITERALLY the same as not voting at all. If you want to change this system then run for office yourself and garner enough support to make that change.

Alternatively you can also vote for candidates who while perhaps not your first/best choice will in fact support and perhaps even champion some of your ideas and views…again, even if not all.

You can choose whatever the fuck you want. But reality is under no obligation to bend to your expectations of what that choice actually does.

To @navarro 's point (and please correct me if I misunderstood or am mischaracterizing)…is simply that you may have not liked Clinton in 2016, but the only real choice was Clinton or Trump. Writing in Sanders or voting for Garry Johnson was only going to hurt one of the 2 primary candidates (Clinton). I am doing something tomorrow I swore I would never do: voting all single party. Because I cannot trust ANY member of the GOP and the only way to clean thing sup is to wipe them all out. Blue wave nothing…ALL BLUE SEATS EVERYWHERE…or as close as we can get.

Well, to say that because someone doesn’t believe your tactical proposals are practical, therefore they must not care about fundamental issues, that’s pretty offensive, and for sure not conducive to collegial debate, so I’ll check out at this point.

I’m saying the opposite. I’m saying that tactical proposals (e.g. the party letting Manchin run under its brand to gain more seats) are distinct from and sometimes fundamental issues (allowing someone using a brand to go against its core values).

There are more than 2 candidates in most elections, sorry if that was unclear.

Not unclear at all. The choices remain the same. Vote for Jill Stein, vote for Ralph Nader. These are abstentions. They have no impact, other than to remove a vote that could have done some good.

Yes. Even if an individual GOP politician is reasonable and okay on their own, and even if they don’t end up voting party line anyway, each Republican in the state legislatures, or the House, or the Senate counts for the Republicans to keep or achieve a majority. And while so much of the Republican party is bugfuck nuts, openly evil, or both, all the Republicans need to be kept out of power as much as possible.

Slight disagreement, in that in some ways, voting Donald Duck or Jill Stein or whatever is worse than not voting. Most who don’t vote are either unable, due to some effort at disenfranchising, or too lazy or disinterested to do so. This is someone able to vote, willing to vote, who still effectively does not vote. That is (IMHO) worse than staying away altogether.

From an objective stance it has the literal exact same effect as not voting at all. Might as well walk in, take the ballot, piss on it, light it ablaze and walk out. While all that will certainly get a visit from the local authorities…it will have the exact same effect on the final election results as having just stayed home.

So while your point may carry some truth in regards to some moral outrage on pissing away one’s civil right…it has no bearing on the election results which is what was being discussed and is what I commented on. The dialogue had zero to do with voting rights.

That is true enough, and yes, I meant morally worse. Effectively and practically, exactly the same.

I fight battles I can win. So arguing with someone who is too lazy to show up is not worth my time in the slightest. And I am not in a position to change the disenfranchisement that has happened directly for anyone.

I can though go vote for those who will fight for those things. And I can remind the person who walks into the ballot box and fucks things up by voting for Bernie Sanders or Tom Brady or some other nonsense move to KNOCK IT OFF. Be a god damn adult. Put on your big adult under garments and make a fucking decision. Left or Right…pick a path. It doesn’t matter that one path has thorns and the other has molten lava…yes both suck. BUT ONE WILL CAUSE YOU TO BURST INTO FLAMES IN 45 SEC and KILL YOU…the other will prick at you and cause some irritation.

Being an adult is hard. And the first rule of Adult Club is: Make a fucking difficult choice.

I have millennial children. That is rant they have heard until they can repeat it verbatim. Not sure it has done any good, but they have heard it.

Same. 18, 15, 11.

And I have reminded them on MANY occasions…I am here to make sure you turn into reasonable rational and semi adjusted adults who contribute positively to the world around you. If in the end you hate my guts and you change the world for the better…I’ll die a happy father.

Preach, brother.

It’s also a good reminder that people should take their kids with them to the voting booth on Tuesday if they can. The earlier that example is set, the better.

Hm. Which law enforcement?

Here’s a horrible thought for you. Is the Kemp “investigate the dems” stratagem trial run for Trump in 2020? “Can’t certify the election while the investigation is still under way, no sir. Just have to wait until then, I’ll let you know.”

I don’t think you know what that word means

Yes, I do. You choose not to choose, and then expect to be congratulated for it. Not how it works.

ETA: It’s ok, we will deal with the Nazis, you go congratulate yourself on your purity. I am moving on.
