Yeah, just looked up our sample ballot. Only 3 questions. 1) House of Rep, Dem, Rep, Write in. Easy enough. 2) Move the courthouse 3) Schoolboard, one guy who says we need more guns in school and one guy all revved up about CRT and “boys in the girls’ room.” I hate this timeline.

Vote or die, in this case, literally.

Oakley… or was that autocorrect in effect?

Enjoyed the ending of that lots.

This question is actually for anyone who has advice: where are people finding the info on school board candidates?

In Indiana, they do not provide any information anywhere, other than names: state voter site, county site, League of Women Voters (doesn’t even have names for school board nominees), local newspaper articles. Zip, nada, nothing.

These are in some ways the most important votes to cast right now, and it comprises about half of my ballot, but I am flying blind.

I get information in my county paper (aside from search engine results). If there are controversies, public airings of opinions or pleas for votes, they tend to wind up there. If all else fails, I also check political party sites and FB groups (for local areas) to see if there are recommendations or warnings posted.

Putting this here, because of how the GOP has been including the issue in midterm political ads trying to link bail reform to their fear-mongering / lying about crime rates:

I haven’t tried FB, so I’ll see what I can find there, thanks!

Political party sites (in Indiana) don’t help with school board candidates, and last election only 2 out of (I think) 8 candidates did have something in the local papers, but this time there is nothing at all.

I also want to vote early (mail-in isn’t an option except in very specific circumstances, none of which apply to me) because my Election Day polling place is a church that proudly declares on their home page that they don’t believe in evolution. I’d much rather drive further and go to a fire station, thankyouverymuch.

Yup, found one on my California balllot and voted for the opponent. :+1:

I do internet searches on the names. Sometimes there is a “local” article (like from patch.com or community impact). But mostly it is searches and, if they are an incumbent, what they’ve been doing.

Sadly, that’s not working in this situation. But I appreciate your advice!

To give you some idea: there is no local Patch for any town in my county.

It doesn’t always work for me either :pensive: sometimes I can at least find a campaign website or campaign FB. You just gotta do your best with what time you have available.

Our paper ran an article on school board candidates specifically. So fairly easy here.

Too late. I already voted. So did most of the people in my area. I don’t think many people around here vote on election day itself.

Yep. My vote went in weeks ago!

We hold the Senate, and US democracy survives at least until the next election.

Keep on voting, among other things.
