I clicked into this article expecting to see that Georgia was training officers in how to enforce some sort of voter ID policy. Surprise surprise, it is about training officers in conflict resolution and the rules of voting.

Georgia folks: any context? Is this window dressing, or a practical move?

Oh, they are offensive, alright. From their feet to their pointy little noggins, offensive. Fuck them and the grifter they rode in on. We can only hope this will utterly destroy the GQP once and for all.

From the partisan fear-mongering about crime on sites like Patch and Nextdoor, to this:

I haven’t tried NewsGuard, but this seems a bit like bothsidesism because Metric Media doesn’t publish who runs it or why, while Courier Newsroom makes it clear. They also have very different results when it comes to fact checks:

As the election approaches, I look forward (not) to fake newspapers on my doorstep warning me about pedo Democrats, murderous “illegals,” and porn being taught in elementary schools. :weary:

Yet another “AI destroys everything it touches.”

You know who else is making preparations, Roger? I’d be shocked if the Capitol Police weren’t making better preparations for the period between Election Day and Inauguration Day this time. When (as I seriously hope is the case) Trump loses, if his cultists try to attack the Capitol again the results would be a lot worse for them than they were on January 6, 2021.

I hope they and their handlers realize this and don’t even try, but I fear their handlers would view them as acceptable losses for a small chance at achieving their goals.

And Joe won’t hesitate to call out the National Guard.

They should have a squadron of attack helicopters on standby for each major step of confirming the election.

Maybe both? There has been issues in some rural parts of the state with voter intimidation, so, that will hopefully help there (but also, cops in rural parts of the state might be part of that intimidation, too)… but, it’s also, only an hour long course… :woman_shrugging: I was wondering, too, just what solution that they believed this was solving more generally. I guess that the state can say “well, we provided the training” so they can dismiss any actual issues at the polls?

For myself, I’m in suburban ATL, in a democratic, minority majority area, and have never had real issues voting… sometimes, we run into a longish line, but that’s been better since they’ve started early voting (which we regularly take advantage of, since one of the early voting locations in our county is where our voting precinct is.

Hoo boy.

Michaelson asked Shanahan–bluntly—what in her background would make her a good president if, in a “worst-case scenario,” she had to lead the country.

“I think that I have a very sophisticated view on foreign affairs due to my previous work in intellectual property law (sic),” she said. “I understand how global commerce works. I understand how we build batteries around the world.”

The head-scratcher of a response went further off the rails shortly after.

“I understand the importance of semiconductors. I understand that big foreign policy decisions are made specifically around semiconductors, and I also am multicultural,” she continued.

Yeah, that ought to quell concerns that she has pretty much zero qualifications or understanding of the world outside of her work in the tech industry.

She has the same qualifications as Trump had in 2016 (having money), but that doesn’t mean that I think she’s a good candidate to run the country if she was needed to step up to POTUS.

You should run government just like you run a battery.

Except Trump also had national name recognition and (for some goddamn reason I still have difficulty understanding) a lot of people thought he made a compelling public speaker. Shanahan doesn’t even have that.

The Liacouras Center, which can hold about 10,000 people, did not open the upper level to attendees — only the lower bowl and floor were full. The crowd was a majority white, but a higher concentration of Black supporters were seated in the section behind where Trump stood, making those supporters visible on the televised live stream.

In response to Trump’s remarks Saturday, Biden’s campaign seized on the size and makeup of the crowd.

“Trump is a diminished man, obsessed with his 2020 defeat in Philly, and he’s determined to exact revenge on our city for rejecting him,” senior adviser Kellan White said. “But no amount of ranting can get him more support here – just look at how many empty seats there were in the arena.”
