Enjoy a nice warm glass of Dr. Pepper

Originally Dr. Benjamin Rush’s ‘Thunderbolt’ Cure-All.

Enzo also pissed off Henry Ford II… which led to the Ford GT40.

In the early 80s I remember hot Dr Pepper being pretty common in the winter in Texas.

The vending machine 10 meters from my house here in Tokyo has Dr Pepper and in the winter I still enjoy a warm mug of Dr Pepper with lemon.

Note 1: my wife thinks I’m nuts for that
Note 2: most Japanese people don’t like Dr Pepper because they say it tastes like medicine even cold. That explains part of Note 1. However there’s no other foreigners close to this vending machine and sometimes it sells out of Dr Pepper so obviously theres locals who like it.

Hot Dr. Pepper is not much different in concept than Chex Mix or Rice Krispies Treats-- a marketing gimmick. “How can we get the consumer to buy more of our product? People drink fewer cold drinks in the winter so let’s heat it and see if we can fool them into drinking it warm!” They should have tried something else, like Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce or glaze, or some Dr. Pepper flavored cake. That might’ve caught on better.

On it!

Amazing. I can’t believe they invented it!

“Goes down smoother than actual Dr. Pepper!”

After those rumors of “coca cola makes worms exit raw pork” went around the internet I saw some folks on youtube touting their “coca cola pork marinade”, so it makes sense.

Doesn’t anyone drink spiced cider in the winter? So much better than warm Dr. Pepper.

If by “spiced cider” you mean “whisky”, then yes, yes we do.

Hadn’t seen that one…

My Stubb’s story: when they opened the restaurant on Red River St. in Austin*, I worked downtown and would walk over for lunch. Someone working there would check up on me after I had my food; I guess she had some connection/relation to Stubblefield but I never figured out who she was (but didn’t want to ask, lest I come off as a greenhorn). Anyway as often as not, she’d bring me some dessert, gratis. One afternoon there was a younger woman working alongside her. The younger woman approached my table and asked “what did you say to my mom?!” I assumed there’d been some misunderstanding, that I’d said something rude etc. Before I could stammer out an explanation (not even knowing what I’d done), she dropped the other shoe: “she loves you to death!”

*My understanding is that Stubb’s sold their bottled sauce business to McCormick, who turned around and sent them a cease-and-desist for continuing to run the restaurant under the name “Stubb’s.” The restaurant (re)christened itself Liberty Lunch, which had shut down around the turn of the millennium. I can’t hate on McCormick’s too much as they’re (sort of) local, and they make Old Bay.
