He would have been 17 in 1995. Time to check the newspaper and police archives?

Oh, they can. They are all wealthy, so they got theirs. Why should they give a shit about helping to destroy the country, especially when they can now all increasing their bottom lines by writitng juicy tell all books about the shit we already all know. The rest of us can get bent.

Yes, in part because people who dare to challenge the status quo are targeted by right wing activists, and often times, universities would rather shut down discussion than to protect academic freedom. Such is the corporate university.

No, fuck that. He is the Republican party now. It’s Trump’s party. The last Republican president that wasn’t utterly batshit in some way was Eisenhower.

Right? What Kathy says! He is the standard bearer for the GOP and this is some 50 years of work behind this… It started with Nixon and there is a direct line between his 68 campaign and Trump today.

“The president’s personal lawyer has been working closely with “an active Russian agent” trying to smear the president’s chief political rival.”

"Three other individuals linked to a Russian tr**l factory were sanctioned alongside Derkach on Thursday. The U.S. Treasury singled out Russians Artem Lifshits, Anton Andreyev, and Darya Aslanova as agents of the Internet Research Agency and its “Russian financier Yevgeniy Prigozhin.” (Known as “Putin’s chef,” the fearsome Prigozhin also controls the shadowy Wagner mercenary group. Prigozhin was previously sanctioned over funding the IRA to meddle in the 2018 midterms.) Treasury accused Lifshits, Andreyev and Aslanova of using “cryptocurrency to fund activities in furtherance of their ongoing malign influence operations around the world.”

Derkach’s sanctions come on the same day that Microsoft revealed it had thwarted Kremlin-backed attempts to hack into a public relations firm with deep ties to the Biden campaign."

I think it is extra insidious because it is so far-fetched, and so divisive. Once you have alienated your family and friends, and been a very vocal… wtf word do we use that isn’t offensive for this? “Eccentric” doesn’t really have the oomph…

…anyway, once you have outed yourself as an “Q-person”, I imagine you get into a sunk cost situation. How many of these people will admit they were wrong and humbly find their way back to normalcy, and how many will double down because that is just too much for their egos to handle?

In yet another “yup, par for the course” news bit

Since they are chumps and losers, having a flag in their honor is just encouraging more chumps, right?

I think Steve is trying to be hopeful in that artice, otherwise he would have said something like:

You know what? There are no magic words or 5 simple tricks that will snap someone out of it once they’re in deep. Their judgement and critical thinking has been compromised, and anything you say will be filtered and probably rejected by the cult thinking. Sometimes there’s no external way to break them out of it. Sometimes it takes a close-up personal experience to hit them in just the right spot to do it, and for some people that never happens.

The unusual thing about the QAnon cult is that there’s no fat rapist guru with a fleet of Rolls Royces and ships calling the shots. At least on the surface, it’s an emergent behavior with no obvious leader.

I was just imagining the long term damage that these people are doing to themselves. The way employers look over people’s social media these days, how will it play when they find all these spittle-frothing diatribes about various politicians being child murderers and Bill Gates inventing the virus so he can insert chips into all of us?

I really wonder how many people will have the character to dig themselves out of “the rabbit hole” they went down, and how many will just double down and doom themselves to be “that person” the rest of their lives.

Blue state, of course not. They would be happy to let it burn.

I’ve already used social media to reject candidates. I see no reason to change that. Empty vessels make the most noise and all of that.

The firefighters also have very little air support, thanks especially to 6 Chinook heavy helicopters that Oregon usually has available for firefighting are on the other side of the Pacific per the request of the DoD. :rage:
