Dear Trump supporters who are upset that no one wants to hire you: It’s not because you support Trump. It’s because you are and asshole, and assholes happen to support Trump. He’s - at best - an intervening variable.
Because it violates the purpose of the process. He can be made irrelevant by the addition of three new justices, which also means he’s not making trouble elsewhere.
In Scott Baio’s case, though, it isn’t even that. I wonder how many people out there are “conservatives” just so they don’t have to face up to the fact that they basically suck and that people don’t want to hire them because they lack the skills to do the job.
Oh FFS. I expect this kind of baseless tabloid garbage from the NY Post but Maggie Haberman should know better than to give the story any kind of additional exposure or credence. (She’s been walking it back over subsequent tweets but still).
Zuckerberg to the NY Post: ‘Not so fast’
Ah, an ironic white supremacist.
I beg to differ; Scott Baio is totally an asshole, and has been one since long before he became a fascist supporter.
People hire assholes all the time, though. The reason he isn’t getting hired is because he can’t act. The fact that he is an asshole, just makes the decision easier.
No argument there; that is the most likely reason he can’t get any work.
But his inability to act doesn’t negate that he’s also an asshole.
Well, if you wanted to have a sincere talk with him, you might say he should step down because we all know that McConnell broke longstanding norms to deny Obama’s appointment, and if he is in fact a man of morals he will vacate the seat, and forstall the addition of two more justices. I’m all for that discussion, but afterwards you’ll still need to add four more because he’ll refuse.
To engage in sarcasm require a level of intelligence that Graham is rather lacking. And the wistfulness in his voice gives it away. On the other hand, the “You are unaware of any government program…” (nudge nudge wink wink) was a clear lie and opportunity to (wink and nod) deny its existence.
That’s pretty much the only way to dismantle regimes nonviolently though, so while it’s an ability that can be abused the other way that shouldn’t prevent it being used properly either. That’s sort of a fundamental issue in society and an extension of the paradox of tolerance - we can’t do the right thing because it could be abused by bad people to do bad things.
I don’t think one way is necessarily better than the other because any of these situations will establish a precedence the still extremely large contingent of authoritarian bootlickers in the US will use at first opportunity without regret. Packing the court, forcing retirement, impeachment - all of it. In fact, when Biden doesn’t do anything the next GOP regime is guaranteed to impeach justices and (continue) to pack the courts.
I think this was supposed to be the October Surprise the Repubs had planned, right?
The NY Post is considered “major and mainstream?”
It’s in the same league as The Daily Fail, AFAIC.
Welp, I definitely didn’t have this on my bingo card:
I mean, he’s been doubling down on a lot of unsavory shit the last year or so, and has firmly reached the wealthy middle-aged man stage of life, but goddamn…
I’m frankly surprised that they haven’t already. I mean, Turmp has both houses of Congress for two years and did jack shit with it, at least legislatively. They don’t have a plan and are shitty at executing what passes for a plan when such a fart bubbles into their brain.
So don’t worry about precedent. I do think it’s important to do the work fixing the problem early, then closing and locking the door afterward by codifying the 60-vote rule that McConnell is abusing into law for confirmations.
Are we sure that the Administration isn’t just making it up, like they’ve done with Fauci, General Miley, and the “Portland Sheriff?”
