FedEx driver screamed and cursed at by racist driveway owner while delivering a package to his house

I think a big part of it is because of the ubiquity of video evidence it has validated a lot of people who would (and should) otherwise feel too ashamed to let their true colors fly. They see people acting foolish and think they’re the majority when, in reality, they’re just a very, very loud minority.

wtf is wrong with people? What’s the appropriate response to this behavior as a society? Should we criminalize this kind of behavior? Or just encourage publicly shaming/doxxing them and refusing them service?

Don’t forget pointing and laughing. That’s always good.

Unfathomable. What does this guy think the man in a FedEx uniform driving a FedEx truck is there to do?

Then there’s later on. Shit like that can really fuck with a person for a long time.

and often prior traumas ( major or minor ) can lead to disassociation. so when somebody is able to keep their cool really really well… sometimes it’s because they’ve dealt with a lifetime of it already

( yay ptsd  )

I can only hope he has a really loving support group.

I see it a lot in aggressive drivers. It seems like since Covid started, people have become unhinged behind the wheel. I ride a motorcycle, and I am routinely aggressively passed by cars of all types when I am already going, um…fast. High gas prices haven’t seemed to slow people down much in my area.

I get the feeling COVID brought out a sense of “I’m going to do what I want to do, when I want to do it regardless”.

Walking down the street instead of the sidewalk, tossing garbage on the ground, not giving people the right of way as they walk down the sidewalk, not holding doors open…I could go on. It just seems since COVID we all lost some manners. Not sure why this happened. Possibly influence from the former president, influence from the Republican Idiot Brigade (or as I like to call them, the punchable triumvirate.). Maybe COVID made us all a little self centered. It’s sad to see.

I’ve notice that, too. I think it’s because the pandemic has sorted people, roughly, into two groups. You’ve got one group, backed up by certain media outlets, who feel they should be able to do whatever they want, without any consideration for others, and the government telling them to take precautions for the health and welfare of society is just “gubmint trying to control us.” Everything is about their freedom and their rights, without any sense of responsibility towards others in society. And they have political leaders siding with them and egging them on. For this group, that whole self-centered attitude has become hardened and entrenched. These are the Me-me-me people. They’ve always been around, but the pandemic has been like a steroid shot for them, making them feel their beliefs are justified.

Meanwhile, you’ve got the other group of people, who have largely tried to take a rational approach, follow recommendations, listen to the science, etc. They’ve gotten tired of trying to do the right thing as the pandemic keeps dragging on and on, and a large part of why it continues on is that first group. As a result, a lot of the second group has gotten fed up with the Me-me-me people, and have grown kind of an FU attitude. “That guy just cut me off! He’s probably an anti-masker! Asshole!”

Meanwhile, there are reports of an increase in violent crime and the politicians wonder, “Gee, why is that happening?”

Something tells me that Driveway Tycoon treats everyone he sees as an underling this way, but especially if they are a POC.
This boy obviously never learned there are people you don’t want to piss off:
The person who cooks your food…
The person who signs your paycheck…
etc.

Given the content of racist statement made in this case, I’d say it predates the pandemic and you got the cause exactly right. 45 emboldened a lot of people who might’ve otherwise kept their hateful views to themselves. All of the anti-immigrant, border protection, and wall-building themes of his campaign and administration were just the tip of the iceberg that nearly sank the ship of state. His success in stripping any pretense of civility from his supremacist supporters makes them much easier to identify, but OTOH it’s jarring for those who weren’t expecting it. :woman_shrugging:t4:

How do these people dress themselves?

How do they not drown looking up when it rains?

But if they met themselves walking in the road when they were driving, they would certainly run themselves over.

Unfortunately, yes, since at least 2005.

Clearly delivery trucks need to add a trebuchet to yeet shit over toward shitty homeowners. Bonus points if the drivers can land them on the roof.

As time goes on, there would be more packages to be delivered, eventually having Two Driveways yelling continuously or until he pops a brain vein.
