Florida bans AP Psychology courses across the state

So that children don’t recognise abusive parental behaviour? The mantra “this is normal, but don’t tell anyone that it has happened” is well known in support groups.

No thanks.

Right now I could move to a red state and pay less in taxes, less in rent, but then there are typically fewer good paying jobs so I’d be back to square one.

It’s a weird aspect of life in the US that the standard of living is higher in blue states, and the public education is better, but then the cost of living is higher. Whereas in many red states, where the taxes are lower they have a lower standard of living, and tend to rely on federal aid that is covered by taxes from blue states.

So investing in good public education leads to better citizens, less crime, and a higher standard of living. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

You also shouldn’t have people practicing in engineering, medicine, law, etc. without a reasonable grounding. I have a job strictly because those things sink engineering projects.

It looks like the fascists are trying to invade the BBS again.

I wouldn’t let him near my kids.

I assume you mean grounding in humanities? If so, I agree 100%. As an engineer, I would say it’s just as important to understand why do something as how.

You mean you won’t be taking your kids for photo ops when they replace the mall Santa with DeSantis?

Then choosing to be a dick straight out the gate was a poor choice for them.

You are being very kind. For me? I think they are purposely trying to be an ass.

A newbie here on the internet? If so, then this is an important lesson, because the bbs isn’t going to be the only place that complimenting fascists with no context makes everyone think you’re pro-fascist.

It was unclear to me if they thought all Africans weren’t Christian. It’s absurd, but Americans don’t know anything about the rest of the world, and I can think of a number of instances of Christian missionaries actually going to other countries, not just completely unaware of the beliefs there, but possessing weird misinformation. E.g. American missionaries going to Iceland, apparently believing everyone to be pagan, unaware that the state church was Lutheran, and another instance where I got to listen to some missionaries who were all set to go the Middle East to “teach the Muslims about Jesus,” only to encounter an actual Muslim who explained to them that, yeah, they already knew about Jesus because he was a religious figure in Islam - it just completely broke the Americans’ brains.

Yeah, any map that depicts the border of China is guaranteed to piss someone off (and probably multiple countries worth of somebodies).

Now, if i were teaching this class, i would very much wonder how long it would be before i got sued, assaulted a/o fired for teaching “illegal” concepts, regardless of this letter. Does a letter instructing you to teach the whole course immunize you? Do you have the money for lawyer bills? My thought is that this is a fig leaf, and no one is going to risk teaching it.
