The mission of the BART Police Department is to ensure a safe environment within our transit system, reduce crime through a highly visible police presence, and proactive enforcement of the law, and to promote public confidence by working in partnership with our stakeholders and the communities we serve.
Because demonizing 120,000 people out of hand is dangerous. I shouldn’t have to say it on this site, everybody knows that profiling is a quick road to gross injustice. It also doesn’t help that these ACAB posts are sometimes very one sided.
It’s a human being eating a god damn sandwich before boarding a train. I don’t care what color the person is, what their hair style is, how many tats or piercings they have or don;t have, if they have a briefcase or backpack, or any other thing about them…they are eating a sandwich. No person eating a sandwich while waiting to get on the train deserves to be treated this way.
Yep. I’m reminded of a quote by Frank Wilhoit: “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect…” Having laws which exist but are rarely and arbitrarily enforced is a very useful tool for achieving this.
I was out there a few weeks ago, going again soon. Can confirm.
It is a suburb getting built up with corporate parks to handle the overflow from Silicon valley. It is all big companies building big new places where the land is cheap(er) for their expansions. Tons of construction going on.
