Is that anything new though? I thought accounts maintained the checks, even after death (see also: Herman Cain). Now, if that account hadn’t previously had the check before the purge, then yeah, it’s new. This could just be a restore after the purge.

I was looking at the comments in one of the linked articles above about accounts impersonating government agencies now that verification is gone.
All the blue-check accounts were echoing “pay the $8!”

Honestly, given how kludgy the original process for removal supposedly was, I’m surprised they even have a backup list that so that they can do this restore.
