Just what the world needs, a fascist “AI”
Easiest “AI” to make.
But hey, at least now venture capitalists who want a fascist AI will be giving their money to an idiotic grifter that will spend the next decade passing off chatbots as “on the verge of general AI” rather than having the slightest idea how to approach one.
Musk suggested that the idea behind xAI was to build an AI that is made safer by its own curiosity, as opposed to being programmed to have morality – a process referred to as alignment. (Dezeen)
Morality free thinking … hmmm … what could possibly go wrong?
“We expect the general AI update to roll out within the next year to 18 months.”
Is he going to but the remains of SpaceX Starship in it?
Another challenger to OpenAI? OK, we’ll allow it
With so much uncertainty and hype surrounding artificial intelligence today, it’s about time someone reliable, credible, and brilliant stepped forward.
Thus imagine our delight when that person turned out to be Elon Musk. On Wednesday the SpaceX multibillionaire, who helped found OpenAI in 2015, launched machine-learning company xAI “to understand the true nature of the universe,” as the somewhat mysterious startup put it.
The goal of xAI so far seems to be to take ML gurus who were once at Tesla, DeepMind, Google, and Microsoft, and form a rival to OpenAI and its large language models that are being injected into various corners. Musk stepped back from OpenAI in 2018.

Former Twitter employee Courtney McMillian has filed a complaint claiming the company owes $500 million in severance pay to the thousands of people that were chopped from its once 7,500-strong workforce.
The lawsuit also claims that only a touch over 1,000 people are left working at Twitter 2.0, just as the billionaire is launching his new xAI biz with newly installed CEO Linda Yaccarino now running the show. The legal filing claims: “Upon information and belief, Twitter has terminated approximately 6,000 employees since Mr. Musk’s takeover, reducing the Company’s workforce from over 7,500 to around 1,300.”
The complaint [PDF], a proposed class action that was filed in a California district court, alleges that not only did Twitter 2.0 unlawfully deny severance benefits, but that Musk himself confirmed that severance benefits would be no less favorable for workers than pre-merger benefits for a year after the deal closed, with the idea that this would prevent “skeptical” staffers from resigning en masse.

Wow, this dumbass is really doubling down on his mistakes
So - only the Nazis get paid?
No but a lot of bad people are gonna get paid along side some decent folks
So far it’s skews pretty heavily toward the shitty end of the spectrum though. I don’t really have a problem with MrBeast. He’s not my thing, but whatever. But he’s not going to counterbalance even a single Tate payment.
Their payment system rewards ad views by twitter blue users and currently that userbase is heavily skewed towards the “asshole” end of the spectrum. Also, Twitter rewards engagement, regardless of it being positive or negative,so in general, makes sense that Tates get more money than, let’s say, Doctorows (who used to have blue for the long format and editing capabilities)
I think is also a bit sad. I don’t dislike the idea of paying major communicators on twitter but the current state of the platform plus the fact that Space Karen is withholding key payments to their exemployees meant that this idea comes really ill-timed.
