No, it really wasnât. By the time Musk bought the thing it had already been appropriated as a misinformation tool for authoritarians and any value it once may have had was all but gone. Without it there is a very real likelihood that Donald Trump never would have got his political career off the ground. Twitter has been terrible for years, but now itâs super-duper-double-plus-bad-terrible with fascism on top.

When looking at the Mirror World, it can seem obvious that millions of people have given themselves over to fantasy, to make-believe, to playacting. The trickier thing, the uncanny thing, really, is thatâs what they see when they look at us. They say we live in a âclown worldâ, are stuck in âthe matrixâ of âgroupthinkâ, are suffering from a form of collective hysteria called âmass formation psychosisâ (a made-up term). The point is that on either side of the reflective glass, we are not having disagreements about differing interpretations of reality â we are having disagreements about who is in reality and who is in a simulation.
