VanWhy’s release marked the second time in two months that a patient was released from Hyatt’s unit only after a sheriff’s deputy showed up with a court order, according to court records.

“I think that they were running a scheme to hold people as long as possible, to bill their insurance as long as possible before kicking them out the door, and then filling the bed with someone else,” said Aaron Cash, a lawyer who represents VanWhy.

Yes, this is a very, very low grade F**k Today in the grand scheme of things, especially as I sit here in that mysterious black area above the map most of you use (hint: :snowman_with_snow: :polar_bear:, bordering :fr: and :denmark:) where it is 25°C, and raining gently…

Today I needed a nice shirt for a dressy evening, and have discovered that there are now no clothing stores in my city of many millions, into which I can walk and expect to be served. They will be nice about it, in classic local fashion but, in the end, they won’t sell me clothes because of who I am. My two steady “go to” shops, George Richards and Moores have decided that tall, healthy me is a market they won’t serve.

Airlines have reduced seat pitch of late, making it dangerous for me to fly unless I pay more, sometimes 2 or 3 times more; that’s if they will even serve me. Sometimes they change the seating last minute and I have to make quick arrangements.

Many car manufacturers make their product similarly dangerous for me.

Door frames… don’t get me started…

That does suck, it seems edge cases get screwed hard, and I can imagine all too well that it isn’t just people who are too tall, it’s any other arbitrary outlier for the company statistically.

how dare they feed the public on public property. that’s anarchy!

and really it kind of is. which goes to show how anarchists can be way better than capitalists. and how cops protect capital, not people

I did some googling for my own peace of mind, this is an absolutely horrible headline. It’s one of those where technically correct is the worst kind of correct.

It’s a natural gas reactor.

Forget college admissions — some parents are shelling out up to $4,000 just to get their daughters into sororities

The headline is misleading. It’s $4k for the consultant. Count in lots of other thing — daily new outfits, mom renting a hotel room and staying in town to help out, transportation rentals, etc etc — I’m guessing it’s way more than that. Plus money lost when daughter doesn’t get into preferred sorority and so leaves the school, humiliated, to go somewhere else.

Hey, where would we be without posting without commentary links to articles we didn’t actually read?

Even in the article, it doesn’t say “natural gas”. It’s “reactor” everywhere.

Although this is technically good news, it’s in this thread because of the theft of twenty years of this man’s life because of police and judicial incompetence.

And the Kafkaesque nightmare that is being held in prison longer because he wouldn’t confess to a crime that he was innocent of.
