Iâve definitely heard that from parents of older kids, even the 8-11 set.
The consequences of this pandemic are going to be widespread and varied, particularly for the kids. The very young missed out on critical peer socialization and fine motor skill development, as @Deborah_Caruso said. The older had online socialization, at least, but also have had to grapple with their own mortality and seeing adults fucking things up all over the place. Issues many kids wouldnât see until older.
We need to push for better mental health care in schools. Like every kid has a standing appt with a real counselor whether they want it or not. To normalize it and get ahead of issues. Plus all the deaths and permanent physical issues.
This is a great idea, but runs headlong into the desperate shortage of qualified individuals to do the work. Untrained folks, no matter how well meaning, can do more harm than good. I am of the opinion that we need to establish some sort of shorter training period position, like a LPN vs BSN sort of thing, to provide triage and support for the overwhelmed and drowning therapists out there, but even there you are still looking at the need for training and experience before being set loose vs the very immediate need. For the present, we are in a very deep hole. And sinking.
Argh. Depressing but quite valid point. We will need those qualified people. We probably need them now, just like most other medical professionals
Absolutely, though Iâm reminded of otherwise sensible friends whoâve been claiming all along that these kinds of consequences of lockdown will far outweigh those that wouldâve happened if weâd let the virus have its way with us, on the way to ânatural herd immunity.â
And Iâm like, Wow, I didnât realize you had that blind spotâŠ
This is what makes me angry about the misinformation that children wouldnât be affected by the virus, starting when it was too soon for anyone to be sure. IMO, nothing outweighs death or the risk of long-term disability. Every time my father talks about this, he says thereâs no way my siblings and I wouldâve been allowed to leave our house. However, people in our community have a history of defensive self-sufficiency that enabled many to have that option. I remind him that most workers today are in a no-win situation - because local governments, landlords/banks, employers, and school officials are all too willing to sacrifice them and their families.
Aw, Christ. Poor SineadâŠ
Great. Now you have to worry that your attorney is tanking your case to pick up some additional cheddar untraceably.
Warning for the video of the cliff face falling on boaters.
Gonna skip this I think.
Iâm gonna call it now. Wakes and sound reverberation from a dense group of boats full of partying people? Perhaps so far as physically bumping the face of the cliffs?
The article says super heavy rains.
Yes, I caught an update last night, but couldnât get the article to copy and paste here for some reason. Still, I wouldnât be surprised if human activity were the final straw.
Heavy rains due to climate change? (Iâd bet on that.)
Nope.
Thatâs just a picture!
Ah shit, now where am I supposed to get some head?
âMany a wise guy, Iâd guess
