Police said his death appeared to have been an accident, caused by someone from a neighbouring apartment building firing their gun by mistake.
Accident? āby mistake?ā My ass. Who do they think they are kidding? This is the US writ large. Chunks of lead propelled at high speed are all too commonly found in too many American cities.
@FGD135 megaton range
Estimate in the story below is 10 megatons of TNT.
So roughly a B53 Bunker Buster nuclear weapon as used to be on top of the Titan II missiles.
Reading the 2022 statement today may not have been the best use of my time given how i felt afterwards but here we are. Caution is required before entering.
Surely 10 megatons is āin the megaton range?ā Or just ābig ass boomā for us guys?
Fuck this TL.
We saw this coming, but it still feels like a backlash.
Not just Sineadā¦ Regina King has also lost her son by suicideā¦
What is going on? These are young people with access to medical help and career support, etc. If even they find our current situation insurmountable, what does that say for the āaverage Joeā?
Right?
In her book, Sinead does talk about just how lacking the the Irish health care system for mental health even compared to the US. We canāt discount a kind of toxic masculinity to discourages men from seeking care for their mental health eitherā¦
This is a huge, ongoing problem in the Black community - at all socioeconomic levels. Iām not sure I want to see a study of the numbers affected before 2016 and after. The effects of the pandemic on BIPOC have made a bad situation even worse. The young people I know were already stressing over BLM raising awareness of brutality and economic inequality - now weāve got Jim Crow 2.0 going on.
There have been multiple awareness campaigns and outreach programs created/headed by celebrities and healthcare organizations in the past few years. Some focus on minimizing the stigma associated with mental health issues, others on the lack of diversity among mental healthcare professionals, and there are also groups working to separate mental health calls from general calls to 911 that lead to police involvement.

Even wealthy, powerful, white kids have huge issues accessing mental health services. How much worse for those not so much?
What really burns me up is how Ronald Reagan gutted the system - starting the boulder rolling downhill in multiple states, bringing us down to where we are today. The classic GOP strategy: break it, monetize it, and demonize any attempt to repair or replace it as socialism or excessive spending. I hope Deeds is successful, but the GOP/GQP did very well in his state last year.
Now that even the wealthy and powerful canāt get help, this problem is getting more attention. However, communities of working class and poor people have been struggling because of this for over 40 years. Iād love to see national attention and resources focused on resolving it for even a quarter of that timeframe.
A chilling effect:
