Fuck Today, Continued

A minor thing but I’m so fucking sick of getting text messages like this:

I am now getting some 10 of these per week from different scammers claiming to be AT&T - always with the same kind of broken English apologizing for an outage or billing issue telling me to click on some sketchy link.

At this point “AT&T” might as well make me CEO of the company with all the downtime and compensation and gifts “they” have been trying to give me these past couple of months.

Fucking scammers.

ETA ooh here’s a good one:

It would also be awesome if AT&T didn’t make reporting spam SMS messages such a pain in the ass too.

I’m so paranoid about anything I receive from my utilities. SoCal Edison sends payment confirmation from SCE (all caps), but they recently changed their “bill is ready” notification to all lower case (sce). I refuse to click on it.

Ever since the pandemic started, I’ve been getting messages about upset customers using my Square payment system. I don’t even have a Square account…

Just FTR, the exit polls in Germany show exactly what was to be feared.

Currently, the openly neo-fascist AfD is predicted to gain 11% of the vote, translating to 87 seats in the Bundestag.

Also, conservatives (which, just FTR, would probably be thought of as socialist in the US, but that’s just a sidenote…) are on par with the SPD (you know, democratic socialists, which would probably be thought of as left wing socialists in the US). This is bad news for everyone unter the age of, say, 40.

This is not going to keep me awake at night, because it was to be expected - but Fuck Today.

The church at Todoque in La Palma was just destroyed by the lava. Up to today, the lava had stopped just over the street. The church was located just off-camera and behind the pink building, over from the reno project from my earlier post.

Getting ready for a “fun” day where I have to send notification of a decision that will result in a grievance and likely a lawsuit (against me). It wouldn’t have mattered which way the decision went–either a “yes” or a “no” was going to generate an extremely negative outcome for me as the person conveying the decision. So, I’m getting ready to hit “send” on an e-mail that will set in motion weeks or possibly months of hell.

ETA: Clarifying

I’m sure you’ve already done this, but have you run your notification past the company’s legal department, HR department, your best friend who’s a lawyer…anything like that?

The first two, plus my department head, plus that person’s boss. To be sure, this probably won’t have any real effect on me outside of the [very real] stress, sleeplessness, and grouchiness.

The person to whom this e-mail is going is someone with a long history of harassment via legal threats and grievances. And who has tenure, of course.

So sorry. You’ve done all you can do. Will your employer have your back?

They say they do, of course. lol I’ve covered my bases by following existing policies, and by getting folks in HR and legal to tell me, via e-mail, that it looks like I followed all the correct policies and Handbook provisions. What that translates to in real life is anyone’s guess, of course.
